US Open Day 3 Tennis Betting Tips
Sergiy Stakhovsky v Peter Luczak
The surprise winner in Yale last week, Sergiy Stakhovsky has been given a few days rest before he starts his US Open on Wednesday. He’s in form and only beat Peter Luczak just last week. The Ukrainian dealt with Marcos Baghdatism, Thiemo De Bakker and Denis Istomin in the Pilot Pen tournament and is more than a match for his Polish-born Australian opponent tomorrow. Luczak had been out of luck before his first round victory over Juan Ignacio Chela last week, but has lost 3 of his 4 matches on this surface since Wimbledon. This is going to be a disappointing US Open campaign, having already been eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2010.
Juan Ignacio Chela v Yen-Hsun Lu
Surprising odds on Juan Ignacio Chela going into his opening round match with Yen-Hsun Lu. Chela is almost at evens with a player who hasn’t got to grips with the hard court season since an impressive run at Wimbledon. While Lu has only beat Pierre-Ludovic Duclos and Paul-Henri Mathieu since his victory over Andy Roddick on grass, Chela has put up impressive battles with Roger Federer and Marcos Baghdatis, whilst beating Nikolay Davydenko and Alejandro Falla recently. Yes, Chela isn’t what he once was, but he’s in the right sort of form to progress to round two this year.
Flavia Pennetta v Agnes Szavay
This is the tournament that Flavia Pennetta reached the quarter finals of last year and became the first Italian female to break into the top 10. Pennetta heads into the US Open in fine form and comfortable dispatched of Irina Falconi in round one, dropping just 3 games. Agnes Szavay has had success on the lower level competition in preparation to her US Open. But once she came up against Vera Zvonareva at the Rogers Cup, she was easily put away. There was a difference in class then and there’ll be the same difference again on Wednesday as Flavia Pennetta will show she possesses the superior quality.
Victoria Azarenka v Gisela Dulko
Victoria Azarenka made hard work of what should have been an easy win against Monica Niculescu in round one. Despite winning the opening set 6-0, she eased off in the second and dropped it, before winning the deciding set 6-1. The first and final sets showed us what the Belarusian is capable of, and despite a tougher opponent in her way tomorrow, Azarenka is capable of booking her place in round three via a straight sets victory. Gisela Dulko notched up an opening round straight sets victory herself against Angelique Kerber, but the lack of form and quality for the Argentine will prove her downfall in this match where Azarenka can show her star quality.
