  1. Manny Ramirez clears waivers and is claimed by the Chicago White Sox. Ramirez will join the team in Cleveland.
  2. Roger Clemens pleads not guilty to federal charges of perjury saying that he lied to Congress in testifying on his possible steroid use in February 2008.
  3. Hiroki Kuroda no-hits the NL wild card leading Phillies for eight innings in a Dodger win. The Braves take advantage by defeating the Mets at home.
  4. No major surprises on the first day of the U.S. Open as all of the seeded players win in New York.
  5. U.S. Soccer extends Men’s National Team coach Bob Bradley for another four years to take the team through the 2014 World Cup.
