US Open Day 2 Tennis Betting Tips
Florian Mayer v Florent Serra
The powerful serving Florian Mayer will be looking to recover from his defeat to the big serving Thiemo De Bakker last week in Yale, when he faces Florent Serra in the opening round of this year’s US Open. Florent Serra has looked dire on hard court and pretty much on all courts this year. The France native was beaten at the Pilot Pen tournament last week in straight sets to Lukas Lacko which says a lot, having played in just one match at the Gstaad Open before that. It was another big server in Andy Roddick who is the only player to put Serra out in the first round in New York in five previous tournaments here, but I expect the German to make it two on Tuesday.
Novak Djokovic v Viktor Troicki
The bookmakers have been generous on Novak Djokovic’s odds going into his first round match at the US Open. He’s never lost in either of the opening two rounds of the US Open in his five visits at Flushing Meadows, and losing in round one is unthinkable for the Serbian tomorrow. He is playing well, losing to only Roger Federer and Andy Roddick on this surface since Wimbledon. He also beat Viktor Troicki comfortably in straight sets in Cincinnati at his last tournament and there’s no reason why Djokovic won’t do the same tomorrow.
Dominika Cibulkova v Stefanie Voegele
Two players short of form, I expect the more experienced Dominika Cibulkova to raise her game on Tuesday and see off the lowly ranked and inexperienced Stefanie Voegele. Cibulkova has a powerful game that will cause her Swiss opponent problems, and provided the service game stays in tact then she will safely progress into round two.
Maria Sharapova v Jarmila Groth
An unfortunate draw for the upcoming Australian, Jarmila Groth sees her take on the in-form and second favourite Maria Sharapova in the opening round. As the odds suggest, Sharapova will comfortably progress from this match. Groth has a bright future ahead of one, but Grand Slams will not be for her. She struggles to see out matches; getting tight when she’s near to the finishing post. She won’t get near it tomorrow as the power and profile of Maria Sharapova will be all too much for the Slovakian-come-Australian. I still have my doubts as to whether Maria Sharapova will go on to win the tournament but she will get as far as round two at least.
