Malcolm Kelly Re-Injures Hamstring, Time With the Redskins Over?

Brandon KeenerAug 30, 2010

According the Redskins.com, Malcolm Kelly has re-injured his plaguing hamstring again. The constantly injured wide out has not played a down during the 2010 preseason because of the nagging injury and is in real jeopardy of losing his position with the team totally.

Kelly, a third year veteran on the team, has not caught a touchdown pass yet in his short NFL career. He missed eleven games as a rookie and all of this offseason due to injury but appeared in every game during the 2009 season.

On a team that is seemingly getting shorter in height at the wide receiver position, Kelly, who stands 6'4" according to NFL.com, certainly has height to his advantage.

The Redskins have until Saturday at 4 p.m. to decide whether to keep Kelly on the 53 man roster, cut him, or put him on injured reserve.

Saying that his "clock is ticking," Kelly understood on Sunday that his time with the Redskins may be coming to an end.

He showed plenty of ability during the 2009 season, including an 84 yard reception, racking up a total of 349 yards equaling 13.9 per catch. Numbers like that put him in good company, tying his yards per catch average with Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl caliber receiver Lee Evans. Kelly, has play making ability but his injury problems have to be in the back of Coach Mike Shanahan's mind.

“It all depends on how much a guy has played in the past, what do you think of his talent, when do you think he can come back,” Shanahan said. “[There are a] lot of different questions that you have to answer before you have somebody in your top 53 and keep them.”

Will the Redskins see how little Kelly has played?

Or how well he has when he did play?

What do you think his talent level is for his size?

All of these questions will be answered by this coming Saturday, 4 p.m. or before. Whatever the decision, it is going to be a hard one to make.
