8 Potential Fights For James Toney

Tim McTiernanAug 30, 2010

I don't know about anyone else, but I could not understand a word that James Toney said in his post-fight interview. So I'm unsure if he's staying in MMA or going back to boxing. If he WERE to stay in MMA, here are 8 fights I think would be fun to watch.

NOTE: I am not saying any of these fights will or should happen, they do not make sense in terms divisions, title shots, and many other things. They are simply fights that I think would be slugfests.

Roy Nelson

1 of 7

Roy would probably just take Toney down and submit him, but there's also the chance that he would try to stand up and trade with him. And after watching Nelson's fight with Dos Santos, we saw that Roy Nelson has quite a chin on him. He would probably think he could take some punishment from Toney, and then he would get knocked out.

Junior Dos Santos

2 of 7

Junior Dos Santos hasn't won a fight by submission in 4 years, and he likes to stand up and trade. I actually give him a chance against Toney if they just brawl it out.

Rampage Jackson

3 of 7

Rampage would absolutely stand up and trade with Toney, maybe just throw him in the clinch and knee him in the face, but either way. Rampage hasn't won a fight with an actual submission in over 9 years, and he has 20 wins since then, so he knows how to knock people out. He also hasn't lost a fight by knockout in over 5 years, and that was to Shogun in Pride, where he got soccer kicked into a TKO loss. This would probably be pretty fun to watch.

Jon Jones

Jones and Toney don't like each other. Simple as that. Jones took disrespect to Toney smack talking about MMA and they went back and forth from there on. Jones has even said he would move up to heavyweight to fight Toney. As with Roy Nelson, Jones would probably just take Toney down. But once he got him on the ground, I'd be afraid for Toney's sake. Jones has demolished everyone put in his way, right? Now imagine someone put in his way actually made him angry and looking for a fight. He's already broken Brandon Vera's face with an elbow. James Toney would probably get the next one.

Shane Carwin

5 of 7

I give Carwin the best chance against Toney as far as people to stand up and trade. We all know how Carwin fights, he would come out with a flurry of knockout punches. If Toney survived that first barrage as Lesnar was able to, then Carwin would be done, in much the same way he was in the Lesnar fight. Carwin has major knockout power though, and this would be a lot of fun to watch in my opinion.

Choi Hong-Man or Jose Canseco

Because who wouldn't love a freak show fight?

Shaquille O'Neal

Just another one that would be fun =D
