Darrelle Revis and Vincent Jackson: What Are They Thinking?

Darrelle Revis continues to sit out of New York Jets camp.  Vincent Jackson has made it known that he will sit out this season for the San Diego Chargers if he does not get the money that he wants.

Decisions like these make people wonder what goes on in these guys’ heads. 

They are some of the premier players in the NFL and can argue that they should get paid that way, but for them to even think that they can sit out one season in the NFL and come back as good as they were before is crazy.  This is a league that is heavily dependent upon speed.  Only the fastest survive.

If Jackson and Revis sit out the 2010 season, they will understand the consequences of their actions if and when they resume playing football full-time.

There is not a league in the entire world that can match the physicality and speed that the NFL has to offer.  That means that there is no alternative option for them to stay in game shape during their personal strikes.

Another reason that makes no sense as to why these guys are considering not playing in 2010 is that they are members of teams that are competitive in the AFC.  Depending upon which preseason report you read, experts have the Chargers and Jets as two of the better teams in the AFC.

To make matters worse, the Chargers and Jets preseason predictions factor heavily on Jackson and Revis contributing significantly to their respective teams.  Without these two players, two NFL teams' seasons hang in limbo.

It will be interesting to see how these situations play out.  Most likely, they are just trying to play hardball to get the money they desire, but will eventually give in as the season gets closer. 

To this point, both players have been very straightforward about what they want and it does not appear that either player’s situation will get resolved anytime soon.
