The Latest in the Pakistan Cricket Scandal As Butt and Yawar Talk

David MoulsonAug 29, 2010

The chaos surrounding a brilliant comeback by Jonathon Trott and Stuart Broad has taken the limelight away from what can only be described as one of the best test partnerships in recent history. The shadow the partnership has been brought into just shows the calibre of the allegations against the Pakistan players as this story rocks the world of cricket.

Pakistan Team Manager Yawar Saeed has spoken for the first time about these allegations and claimed despite these issues, the One-Day series will still go ahead.

He said, "As far as I am concerned, the one-day series is on, we are moving to the West country, and we will play all the one-dayers and the T20s."

When asked about the situation surrounding his captain Salman Butt and two other players, he said "These are only allegations, no allegations are true until they are proved."

Salman Butt, the Pakistan Captain and "ringleader" in the ongoing matter, spoke out as saying, "These are just allegations and anybody can stand out and say anything about you, doesn't make them true."

Andrew Strauss was fairly long faced in his post match interview. he told BBC Sport that these allegations had "removed the gloss from the series victory."

He said "The mood was rather sombre. Cricket was in the headlines for the worst of reasons."

He went on to talk about the ongoing matter and said, "I can't really comment on the specific allegations, but clearly it has been a tough day."

Pakistan's late entrance to Lord's today had threatened to call off the test match, but an hour and twenty minutes before start of play, Salman Butt and his team left their London hotel.

The latest news release has stated that the police are speaking to those concerned in the allegations. A 35-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers.

The players in question have allegedly had their mobile phones also confiscated as the police continue their enquires.

If you have an opinion on this matter, please feel free to comment. I am interested to know where everyone stands on this matter.
