Little League World Series Consolation Game: Chinese Taipei Throttles Texas

Making it to the final day of Little League World Series action is always a meaningful feat, even if that means playing in a consolation game.

For Chinese Taipei and Texas, their Little League dreams hinged on just that as they took to the diamond for one final game on Sunday morning.

By the third inning, all was nearly said and done except for the final score, as Chinese Taipei jumped out to an early 10-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 14-2 victory over Texas in the LLWS Consolation Game.

Starting pitcher Wei-Chih Chen picked up the win for Chinese Taipei while Texas’ Jaron Roblyer was saddled with the loss in a game that lasted just one hour and 41 minutes.

Roblyer was pulled after just 0.2 innings pitched (seven hits, eight earned runs) while opposing pitcher Chen pitched four solid innings, giving up a mere four hits and two earned runs (along with four strikeouts).

Leading the way offensively for Texas in the loss was Beau Orlando (1-for-2 with a home run and two runs batted in) and Chris Leger (1-for-1 with a triple).

On the winning side, almost every batter was involved in the blowout victory for Chinese Taipei—with Hsun-Hao Shih (2-for-2 with a home run and three runs batted in) and Shao-Fei Huang (2-for-2 with a walk and one RBI) leading the way with perfect performances at the plate.

In addition, Chinese Taipei leadoff hitter Chen-Wei Chen went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI while left fielder Shang-Yu Wu went 1-for-2 with two runs batted in and a triple; also driving in runs for Chinese Taipei were Chun-Yi Hung, Po-Jung Tseng, and Yung-Heng Li Wu.

With the LLWS Consolation Game now in the rearview mirror, only one matchup remains in this year’s tourney as Japan faces Hawaii at 3 p.m. EST on ABC.
