UFC 118 Pay-per-View Play-by-Play: Nate Diaz (12-5) vs. Marcus Davis (22-7)

Round 1
This welterweight bout is refereed by Yves Lavigne. Davis comes out and connects with a left but takes a couple of strikes from Diaz. Diaz is playing up to the crowd, and gets caught by a Davis exchange.
Diaz makes it back to his feet and presses Davis against the cage. As they separate, both fighters are bloodied. Diaz nails Davis with a sharp left hand, but Davis answers with a left hand of his own. Davis hits with a nice combination, but again is countered by a Diaz combo.
Diaz is working kicks now and then decides to clinch with Davis. Diaz goes in for the takedown, and begins to work knees on Davis. Davis separates and misses with a couple wild left hands. Diaz looks to be more accurate with his strikes, however Davis is getting some through as well. Davis hits with a hard left hand, but misses with a combo as the bell ends. (Diaz 10-9)
Round 2
Davis looks to be battered as he comes out for the 2nd—Diaz looks to be the fresher fighter. After a quick check from the doctor, the action continues. Davis hits with a left hand, but Diaz clips him with some combinations.
Diaz initiates a clinch and they are against the octagon fence. Diaz continues to work for the takedown, however Davis escapes and squares off in front of him. Diaz begins to pick Davis apart connecting with several jabs and hooks. Diaz adds a front kick and a left hook. Davis turns his attention to Diaz body, but takes several shots to the face for his trouble.
Davis now comes in and holds Diaz, but soon lets go. Diaz now has Davis’ face bleeding badly, but Davis continues to push forward and now utilizes a couple of leg kicks. Diaz works his short jabs and often finds a home on Davis’ face.
Davis is working his head movement and tries to hit with another leg kick, however Diaz catches Davis and shoots in for the takedown. Davis defends the takedown and takes Diaz to the ground as the round ends. (Diaz 10-9)
Round 3
Davis’ right eye is almost swelled completely shut as he stands for the final round. Diaz looks fairly fresh coming out for the 3rd round.
The action begins and both fighters are moving just fine. Diaz works more short jabs and hooks and adds a couple of kicks as well. Davis cant find his distance with his punches, but does hit with a nice leg kick. Diaz initiates a clinch and presses Davis against the fence. Davis breaks free and squares off trading with Diaz. Both fighters are taking their turns catching each other with punches.
Diaz is hitting Davis with several combos and Davis is only finding an occasional home for his punches. Davis’ right eye is swollen almost twice the normal size. Diaz gets the fight to the ground with a takedown. He begins to work from top position and passes Davis’ guard. Diaz has Davis in a guillotine and squeezes until Davis goes unconscious. The referee steps in and calls an end to the fight.
