Statman’s R&D: Saturday’s Preseason Risers

A JAug 28, 2010

Jake Delhomme QB CLE – (20 for 25, 152 yards, TD) Another near perfect performance for Jake.  I’m waiting for someone to pull the name off of his jersey revealing it really says Manning.  I’m not sure how this is happening but bump Cleveland’s offense up a notch…again.

Matt Stafford QB DET – (13 for 17, 141 yards, TD) Stafford seems to be in the zone so far in 2010.  He is completing passes like clockwork and needs to be bumped up the draft sheets.  Expect more good games than bad in Matt’s 2nd year.

Jahvid Best RB DET – (2 touches, 61 yards) Best is showing that college was just a preview of his big play ability.  Detroit hasn’t had such a complete back since Barry.  Expect big yardage totals for Best in 2010.

Joshua Cribbs WR CLE – (3 catches, 47 yards) Mangini is making a point of getting the ball to Cribbs this year.  Although I prefer Massaquoi in the talent department, Cribbs speed helps catapult this Cleveland offense forward.  Stay tuned.

Carson Palmer QB CIN – (9 for 11, 95 yards, 2 TD’s) After a lackluster showing again in 2009, Palmer is trying to step up to the top tier potential he showed early in his career.  He has more weapons than ever with the additions of Owens and Grisham so expect a solid season.  Carson has pretty good value after the first 10 QB’s go.

C.J. Spiller RB BUF – (14 touches, 85 yards, 2 TD’s) Buffalo’s offense will filter through Spiller in 2010.  Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson are strictly handcuffs.  Spiller out gained Ryan Mathews and Jahvid Best in 2009 yards a touch totals and could have the most talent of the three.  Think big yardage but TD’s could be hard to come by.

Jermaine Grisham TE CIN – (4 catches, 45 yards, TD) Palmer’s new toy has tons of talent.  More of a receiver type than a natural TE, Grisham will get open.  If you need a TE late in the draft don’t think twice about drafting Jermaine.  He should put up solid numbers his rookie year.

Mike Williams WR TB – (3 catches, 83 yards) Mike Williams continues to make plays down the field no matter who is throwing him the ball.  With the Tampa Bay offense starving for some playmakers, don’t be surprised if Mr. Williams is force fed the ball through the air.  Draft him late and thank me later.

Brandon Jacobs RB NYG – (6 carries, 41 yards) Jacobs showed up to camp this year clearly thinner and quicker and showed some nice burst on a 29 yard run tonight.  He is dropping like crazy in drafts with Bradshaw being touted as the guy in New York.  I personally think Jacobs is going nowhere and will get a 50/50 split of carries once the season starts.  Consider him a nice bounce back candidate.

Steve Smith WR NYG – (4 catches, 48 yards) After establishing himself as Manning’s go-to-guy, Smith is picking up where he left off in 2009.  Steve is a solid WR2.

Ray Rice RB BAL – (9 touches, 57 yards) “Chinatown” is primed for a tecmo bowl type season.  Between all the dump passes and screens Rice will get fed he should lead all backs in receiving yards.  If healthy he is a lock for 2,000+ total yards with 10 scores.

Matt Schaub QB HOU – (18 for 29, 183 yards, TD) Schaub looked sharp from the first snap and locked onto Andre Johnson all night long.  Expect this to be a trend that continues from last year.  Schaub is a great QB in the 3rd round of drafts.

Andre Johnson WR HOU – (7 catches, 79 yards) “The Giant” showed tonight why he is the first WR off the board in 2010.  With hands like an ogre, Johnson continually snatched balls out of the air and ran over defenders.  A great 1st round pick with WR so thin this year.

Arian Foster RB HOU – (22 touches, 126 yards, TD) Showing nice cut moves and slashing ability, Foster tore up the mighty Dallas defense tonight.  The cat is out of the bag! Everyone will be locked onto Foster going into the draft over the next few weeks so make sure to take him a round or two earlier as he is a featured back in a high octane offense.

Vince Young QB TEN – (6 for 9, 48 yards) Just a note to Young owners that he is continually completing passes and should show more talent in 2010.  Expect a solid season from a QB that has the most deadly weapon in the league in CJ.

Adrian Peterson RB MIN – (13 touches, 73 yards, TD) All street lights are turning green for as far as AP can see.  Now being featured on 3rd down, Peterson has a chance to put up stats like never before.  Favre looked bad tonight but expect the rust to be gone by week 1.  If you are drafting anyone other than CJ over AP you are nuts.

Percy Harvin WR MIN – (2 catches, 30 yards) The electric 2nd year man played tonight after being cleared by doctors.  With Sidney Rice out, Harvin will be expected to pick up the slack and catch more balls this year.  Add in a few reverses and you could have yourself a stud WR2.  I’m not as worried about the migraines as most people.
