Chris Cooley Embracing the Redskins Franchise and Washington D.C.

Josh McCainAug 28, 2010

Twitter is a great tool if you're a writer, or if you consider yourself one (I'll let you, loyal reader, decided which one I am).

I have just hopped on the Twitter bandwagon, honestly, because I just bought my first Android phone.

So, once I signed up I decided one of the best ways to bring you, the reader, the most up to date news I can was to follow individuals of the sports teams I try to cover for you (mostly the Redskins).

So, in my search, the first Redskin I found was none other than Captain Chaos, Chris Cooley.

Knowing Cooley's personality I knew he'd be perfect to follow to get some of the more off-the-wall Redskins items I like to write about.

Another thing about Twitter is that it gives you suggestions on who to follow based on those you already follow.

So, because of Cooley, not only was I getting suggestions to follow current Redskins like DeAngelo Hall and Fred Davis, but I also received suggestions to follow old favorites like Darrell Green and Dexter Manely.

Seeing that Cooley follows some of these older Redskins brought a smile to my face.

In this modern era of sports and free agency where many players are here today and gone, well, sometimes today, I always wondered if those players ever actually embraced the city and team that they played for.

From just looking over Cooley's Twitter page and seeing the old-time Redskins he follows, as well as other Washington D.C. sports stars (such as John Wall and Alexander Ovechkin), it would appear that Cooley has also embraced the District of Columbia.

It is honestly refreshing to see a big time player like Cooley not only meld in with the city he plays in but into the lore of his team's history.

Hopefully, Cooley is the start of a new trend in sports and not some sort of exception.

Now I know that in this modern era of sports Cooley might not always wear the burgundy and gold, but to me and many fans he will always be a Redskin.

Until next time loyal reader, Go Skins, and you can follow me on Twitter @jomac006 and then you can find Chris Cooley.
