Life was supposed to easy as a Spurs fan today.

After beating Young Boys in midweek to advance to the UEFA Champions League Group Stage, Harry Redknapp's club had a home fixture with Wigan.

Wigan, the team that lost to Blackpool 4-0 in the first week and 6-0 to Chelsea last week.

Wigan, the team that Spurs whooped 9-1 last season in the Premier League.

Wigan, the team that beat Spurs today 1-0 at White Hart Lane.

In what has to be the shock result of the EPL season so far, Roberto Martinez's club got a late goal from Hugo Rodallega and held Spurs to a clean sheet.

Not many chances came about for Spurs, who started the same lineup from Wednesday except for Younes Kaboul coming in for Vedran Corluka.

In the first half, the team looked dead with not many chances. Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe lacked the chemistry that they usually have and it set up the changes that Redknapp made at half time.

Niko Kranjcar and Roman Pavlyuchenko came on at half time but had no real impact past the first 10 to 15 minutes in the second half.

For Wigan, a golden opportunity came about in the 79th minute when Antolin Alcaraz missed a shot point blank in front of the goal.

Jordi Gomez also had a scoring chance in the 80th before Rodallega netted his and his club's first goal of the season.

Tom Huddlestone had a chance in front of goal right after but missed wide and Spurs could not get the ball past Wigan keeper Ali Al-Habsi.

For Wigan, this game was a great moral boost and could help Roberto Martinez keep his job after the brutal first two weeks for the Latics.

For Spurs, Redknapp and company need to make sure that the this is the one and only time his team has a Champions League hangover for the rest of the season. The squad has enough depth that Redknapp does not need to start the same 11 every game, and hopefully he found that out today.
