News On Marc Staal, Alexander Frolov, and More: Rangers Rumor Round-Up
I'm just getting back from vacation, so I thought a small rumor blog would be nice. Tomorrow, I will start with my "Preview" series.
First, some good news on the Marc Staal front. Staal's agent announced through email that Staal would still like to remain a New York Ranger. And while there is still the possibility of him getting that offer sheet he wants, he hopes the Rangers would be able to match it.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind the Rangers re-signing him. I just think they can do without him.

Next, according to sportbox.ru, Alexander Frolov will be wearing No. 31 for the Rangers next season. Not exactly big news, but still some news to report.
According to Todd Cordell of NHLBuzz, the Rangers do have interest in signing center Kyle Wellwood, if he is talking the right price. He would be a good addition to the team, and could take the No. one spot for center.
Yes, he only scored 14 goals last season. But Wellwood does have talent, and given the right wing-men (Gaborik and Frolov), he may be able to put up some pretty good numbers.
Now, this next rumor comes from Hockeybuzz. I know a lot of you don't trust Eklund, but for what it's worth, this rumor circulating quite a bit at the trading deadline. Take it with a grain of salt if you wish, but here it is: The Calgary Flames have tons of interest in acquiring Brandon Dubinsky from the Rangers.
Again, this rumor has been around for a while and it is well-known that the Flames have had interest in Dubinsky since last summer.
What would a trade look like? There really isn't much the Flames have to offer the Rangers right now.
Sather doesn't want to bring Jokenin back, the Rangers don't really need to take a chance on Alex Tanguay, so unless the trade holds Jarome Iginla, Rene Bourque or Mikael Baklund, Sather probably wont make a move.
The Flames may also package a defenseman, maybe Robyn Regher or Ian White, but even then Sather may want more for Dubinsky.
This is speculation, but the Rangers did have interest in signing veteran forward Bill Guerin at the beginning of Free Agency (until they signed Prospal).
The Rangers may pick up interest again, now that it's known around the NHL that the Penguins will not be bringing him back to Pittsburgh.
That's it for now; hope you enjoyed.
