Jim Tressel, Steve Spurrier Know: Alpha Tau Omega Brothers Can Coach

The Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity is based on the principles of scholarship, fellowship and character. These same ideals are what enable an individual to lead.

There are many significant Alpha Tau Omega brothers who have influenced the world as we see it today.

More importantly, there are a variety of brothers who are contributing members of the coaching profession.

If a team is looking for a coach to help turn its team around, it does not have look farther than the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

This fraternity features coaches in college football, college wrestling, college basketball, and the NFL.

5. Dom Capers: Current Defensive Cordinator for the Green Bay Packers

Dom Capers is a well-respected National Football League coach who is currently the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.

Capers grew up in Ohio and attended Mount Union College, where he played linebacker and defensive tackle. He was also a member of the Alpha Nu Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

He has achieved a tremendous coaching career. He began coaching at the college level at numerous schools that include: California, Tennessee, and Ohio State among others.

Capers is most recognized for taking over as the head coach for the Carolina Panthers in 1995 during their expansion year. He led the Panthers to the NFC Championship game in 1996.

He also took over for the expansion Houston Texans in 2001 and coached there for three seasons.

Capers is known for his defensive schemes and is currently serving as the coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.

4. Roger Reina: University of Pennsylvania Wrestling Coach

Roger Reina served as the head wrestling coach at the University of Pennsylvania from 1986-2005.

He left coaching in 2005 after 19 season on the mat where he had a career coaching record of 205-106-6, making him the most successful coach in the 101-year history of the wrestling program.

Reina is credited with coaching 63 NCAA qualifiers, 31 EIWA Champions, 17 All Americans, four consecutive EIWA titles, three NCAA Finalists, an NCAA Champion, and an Olympic gold medalist.

Rodger himself graduated from UPenn in 1984 where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

3. Steve Spurrier: Head Football Coach South Carolina Gamecocks

Steve Spurrier is currently the head football coach at the University of South Carolina. He is best known for winning the Heisman Trophy in 1966 as a player with the Florida Gators.

Spurrier is also known for his coaching stint at Florida. He led the gators to six Southeaster Conference (SEC) championships and a consensus National Championship in 1996

He also tried a stint in the NFL, but enjoyed better success as a college football coach. He coached the Washington Redskins for two seasons.

Spurrier is attempting to turn around the football program. He has a 35-28 record since starting his tenure as the head coach in 2005.

He was an Alpha Tau Omega brother during his time as the quarterback for the Florida Gators.

2. Jim Tressel: Ohio State Head Football Coach

Jim Tressel is currently the head football coach at The Ohio State University and has had tremendous success.

Tressel was hired before the 2001 season to replace head coach John Cooper. He has led the Buckeyes to three BCS National Championship games. His squad in 2002 went 14-0 and defeated the Miami Hurricanes in the National Championship game.

Tressel was most known for his ability to beat long-time rival Michigan in his early years. Defeating the Wolverines now-a-days does not take on much worth. 

He coached Youngstown State, a Division 1-AA school for 15 seasons. He led the Penguins to four National Championships during his tenure.

Tressel was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at Baldwin-Wallace College located in Berea, Ohio. BW is a small, division school that participates in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

1. Brad Stevens: Butler University Basketball Coach

Brad Stevens is currently the head basketball coach for the Butler University Bulldogs.

He was the assistant coach for the Bulldogs from 2001-2007. In his first season as head basketball coach, Stevens showed why he is one of the best young coaches in the NCAA.

He led the Bulldogs to a 30-win season, becoming the third-youngest head coach in Division-I history to have a 30-win season. In 2010, he broke the NCAA record for most wins for a coach in his first three years, exceeding the previous record by eight. 

The 2009-10 team finished the season undefeated in conference play becoming the first Horizon League team to do so.

Stevens coached Butler to its first Final Four and he also became the second-youngest head coach to coach in a National Championship game when they lost 61-59 to Duke.

Stevens was a member of the Delta Rho Chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at Depauw University located in Greencastle, Indiana.
