Major League MVPs
With the baseball season coming down to the stretch, it is time to throw names in the hat for the MLB MVP honors.
American League
This will most likely be a battle between Josh Hamilton and Miguel Cabrera. Hamilton is hitting an impressive .356 with 30 home runs and 92 RBIs, while Cabrera is batting .342 with 31 home runs and 104 RBIs. As you can see they both come very close in statistics but there is one factor that will play a big role in this decision and that is their team’s success. The Texas Rangers are 1st in their divisions and are pretty much a shoe in to make the playoffs. The Detroit Tigers on the other hand are 9 games behind in the AL Central and the wild-card team will obviously be coming out of the AL East. With the Tigers practically out of the race, it leaves the AL MVP award in hands of Josh Hamilton. The Rangers have been somewhat of a surprise this year and could be the one team that challenges the New York Yankees in the playoffs. With the team ready to make a nice playoff run, it only makes sense that Hamilton gets the AL MVP Award. After all the struggles he has gone through in the past, it is great to see the success that he is having. He is a quality power hitter, and has shown some very impressive defense over this past season.

National League
All the talks for the NL MVP have been between Albert Pujos and Joey Votto. Pujos is hitting .319 with 33 home runs and 92 RBIs while Votto is at .326 with 31 home runs and 90 RBIs. They are both battling it out to try to win the triple crown and their teams are battling for the top spot in the NL Central. It is a possibility that the losing team may not even make the playoffs with the San Francisco Giants leading the wild-card race. So the NL MVP award could depend on which player makes the playoffs and whether either of them can capture the triple crown. Although both of these guys are the top candidates for this award, I am going to have to homer on this one and suggest that Adrian Gonzalez win the award. His numbers are nowhere near quite impressive as Pujos or Votto; he is hitting .298 with 26 home runs and 82 RBIs. Now let’s take a look at the San Diego Padres. They currently hold the best record in the National League and are the 3rd best team in the Majors, behind only the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. Before the season started, Gonzalez was almost sure to be traded by the deadline, but that never happened. The Padres shocked the league and built a team focused on the best pitching in all of baseball. Gonzalez currently leads the Padres in almost all offensive statistics and carried the offense on his back until the trade deadline. The Padres were able to make big trades for Miguel Tejada and Ryan Ludwick, but until then Gonzalez was practically a one-man show. If you truly watch Gonzalez play, you can tell that he holds incredible leadership skills. All his teammates respect him and it seems as if even the coaches respect his suggestions and advice. Gonzalez is a true student of the game and without him the Padres would be nothing. Pujos and Votto are both extremely important to their individual teams but Gonzalez is the face of the best team in the National League and the leader of a team that was always in the bottom four of all preseason rankings.
NL MVP: Adrian Gonzalez, San Diego Padres
This is just an opinion…so please Pardon My Bias.
