Cowboys Are Cash King In the NFL

Jason HenryAug 26, 2010

The Dallas Cowboys are again the king’s of the National Football League. Well, at least in terms money.

Forbes magazine released its list of team values this week and the Cowboys are cash kings once again. This will be the fourth consecutive year that the ‘Boys are perched atop the money list and the Cowboys, according to Forbes, are worth an estimated $1.8 billion dollars.

That type of dough will buy a lot of Tony Romo jerseys.

According to the report the NFL saw a decline of a least two percent in team value league wide.

The NFL’s least valuable franchise you ask? The Jacksonville Jaguars with a paltry $725 million dollars.

Compared to last year’s list the Cowboys value actually rose from $1.65 billion to $1.8 billion. Jerry Jones opened a new stadium last year that has played host to a number of events including boxing matches and music concerts. So profitable is a word that Jones and Co. probably hear every day.

Following behind the Cowboys are their division rivals, the Washington Redskins.

The real Redskins of D.C. have an estimated value of $1.55 billion dollars despite missing the playoffs last season and not having appeared in a Super Bowl since 1991. Daniel Snyder runs through coaches and coordinators like Eldrick does women but homeboy knows how to make money.

The Redskins are one of the league’s most valuable franchises and even took the king title away from the Cowboys in 2006.

But like Dallas the Redskins are having problems turning monetary success into a winning formula. Despite the Cowboys recent triumph’s of drafting pro bowl players and winning their first playoff game since 1996, the Cowboys last Super Bowl victory came 15 years ago.

That’s a lifetime for most Dallas fans.

The key for Jones and Co. will be to turn their consistent monetary achievements into something tangible the fans can hold onto on the field. Having the league’s biggest and brightest stadium is nice, but where’s the trophy?

Yeah Miles Austin is dating one of the Kardashian sisters and that may turn into more money at the registers for Austin jerseys, but where’s his Super Bowl ring?

Bottom line is this.

The Cowboys may rule at the box office and have a constant presence on Sportscenter and ESPN, but for some odd reason I believe the fans are looking for another title besides cash king.
