Here’s the thing about LB’s when it comes to your fantasy draft: Depending on how many you are required to start, they can make or break your fantasy team. However, the difference between the number 7 LB and the number 40 LB may only be about 2 to 3 points per game. As I said before, don’t sacrifice your offense for a defensive player unless it really makes sense.

Not only are LB’s responsible for the majority of tackles in the NFL, but they also get sacks, defend passes, force fumbles, and get interceptions. In leagues that only require only one or two IDP players, chances are they are going to be LB’s unless one of the top safeties or CB’s are available and the top five LB’s are off the board. In leagues that require more than two starting LB’s, grabbing three of the top 20 LB’s for your fantasy team can propel your team to a dominating season. I would still build my offense first, but when the player pool gets to the point that the top WR or RB left will be just as good as the next five, six, or seven WR’s and RB’s left on the board, you may want to start jumping on your LB’s.

I admit I didn’t have the opportunity to play in an IDP league last season, but in previous years my teams have been practically unbeatable. I won those leagues easily and had the highest weekly score on numerous occasions. The thing to keep in mind is although the scoring difference between the number 20 LB and the number 60 LB will likely be minimal, having three of the top 20 is going to to bring great results. Your team won’t be devastated or suffer greatly if you don’t manage to grab three of the top 20, but in the event you have the opportunity it can really put your team in a great position to win it all.
