Video: Power Ranking the Best Japanese Baseball Catches Ever

Sam WestmorelandAug 26, 2010

Three weeks ago, a video of Hiroshima Carp centerfielder Masato "Spiderman" Akamatsu spread around the web like wildfire.

Analysts everywhere called the catch one of the greatest of all time.

Now, just three weeks later, it might not have even been the best catch of the year, as teammate Soichiro Amaya has a video of his own making the rounds.

In the spirit of these high-flying videos, we bring you the Japanese baseball video power rankings. Get ready to have a sore jaw from all the times it'll hit the floor.

10. Diving Catch into the Outfield

1 of 10

This play makes the list because it ended the game, helping the Buffaloes beat the Golden Eagles.

9. Diving Catch By a Catcher

2 of 10

Fantastic play made better by the fact that it looks like he's playing on mud.

8. Fantastic Grab on Cement/AstroTurf

3 of 10

Fantastic grab made on the AstroTurf of this field, especially when you consider how thin the padding probably is underneath.

7. Pitcher Catches Baseball in His Shirt

4 of 10

This one would have been higher, were it not based entirely around luck, rather than skill. Still, pretty impressive.

6. Diving Catch

5 of 10

Fantastic catch; the crazy part is, he tries to throw the runner out at home and almost does!

5. Great Catch at the Wall

6 of 10

Great catch to end the game here.

4. Catcher Flips

7 of 10

This is the same catcher who made play No. 9, I believe.

3. Faceplant

8 of 10

Words aren't necessary here. Try not to wince too much.

2. Spiderman

9 of 10

He almost jumps an eight-foot high wall. Almost.

1. Superman

10 of 10

If Akamatsu is Spiderman, Soichiro is Superman, because he leapt that wall in a single bound.
