The Anti-Rocker Syndrome: Create an Unholy Alliance

Bleacher ReportAug 26, 2010

As of now I'm pretty sure we are all aware of the Rocker Syndrome, where only one half of a tag team goes on to become a success in the wrestling business, while the other has a semi par career i.e. HBK and Marty Jannetty.

The Following list contains the cure if you would on how to adapt or create a tag team where both superstars will go of to become great successes. The answer is simple take two already well established performers, pair them with one another and enjoy the ride.

We have seen this happen almost every year for the past 20years in the business. With the most recent being Jerishow. So enjoy the slideshow, and please note that there are millions out there, but I decided to just pick a few of the well known ones just to make my point that much clearer.

Hulk Hogan & Macho Man

1 of 9

It is only natural for me to start with perhaps one of the biggest unholy tag teams in the WWE, the team of Macho Man Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan aka the Mega Powers.

Both men at the time were the biggest icons in the business and were changing the face of wrestling more then we could ever imagine.

Hulk Hogan

Went on to become the greatest face in wrestling today, loved through out the world both for his cinematic appearances and for his role as a wrestling icon. He has become a multiple time World Champion in the WWE and WCW.

Hogan is also the first wrestler to have his own reality TV Show titled Hogan Knows Best. A Documentary into the life of Hulk Hogan behind the wrestler.

He is a true Face of Wrestling and an Icon if there ever was one.

Randy Savage

Randy Savage although not as big of a star as Hogan, many would consider Savage as the Wrestler who defined wrestling. Big arms, crazy gimmick, good physique, and a superb presence with the Microphone he really was a crowd pleaser.

Savage like Hogan is also regarded as one of the biggest stars to ever grace the squared circle both as a wrestler and as an inspiration. He redefined wrestling matches with his technical and physical brilliance as depicted in his match at Wrestlemania 3 were he squared of against Ricky Steamboat in one of the greatest matches ever known to hit our TV Screens.

Savage is also a former multiple time Heavyweight Champion and he will definatly be remembered as a true icon of wrestling.

Chris Benoit & Kurt Angle

2 of 9

From legendary to wrestling personified, perhaps two of the greatest pure in ring technicians to ever grace us in the ring, Benoit and Angle had great in ring chemistry with both men each trying to out do the other.

They became the first ever WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions in the history of the sport. However with egos that big it is no surprise that this partnership only lasted a few weeks.

Kurt Angle

Well Kurt was already a well established star before entering this particular tag team, however his matches alongside Benoit against the likes of Benjamin and Haas or The Guerrero's were truly something special in the making as it brought us back to the old days where Benoit and Angle would compete in singles competition with each trying to out do each other in terms of who can German suplex there opponent the most.

Angle is a former WWE, TNA, World and WCW champion, he is one of only few wrestlers to hold nearly every title in any organisation.

Chris Benoit

The Rabid Wolverine, truly a menace inside the ring, his quickness and technical brilliance were truely something to behold. He is also no stranger to Heavyweight Gold, he won both the World and WCW title during his span in the wrestling world.

Jericho & Big Show

3 of 9

Jerishow, what a tag team on one side you had the technical and aerial abilities of Y2J and on the other side you had the power and physical prescience of the Big Show, put the two together and you have a match made in Heaven, don't believe me just ask Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart.

Jericho

You don't have to be a wrestling nut to no how great of a wrestler Jericho truly is. The guy has it all, looks, charisma, wrestling ability and great with the crowd. He has held many titles in his career however none more prestigious as the Undisputed Championship, where he defeated both the Rock and Austin on the same night.

Jericho is also part of Rock Group Fozzy.

Big Show

This guy has basically accomplished more in his career then any other giant could dream of, he is a great showman with excellent characteristics for a giant. He is a former WWE, WCW and ECW Champion.

Big Show is also no stranger to the big screen having appeared in a number of films including jingle all the way where he had a fight with Big Arnie and he played a cameo in The Water Boy Starring Adam Sandler.

Kane & Mankind

4 of 9

Kane and Mankind are definitely a bizarre duo that rocked the WWE in the late 90's. This was Kane first tag team championship in the WWE. Both men were going through a huge transition period, they both were after the WWE gold and both had common enemies in Stone Cold and Undertaker. As usual any alliance that is led by Paul Bearer is surely to end in total havoc and chaos, as did this one.

Kane

Kane is one of those guys that captured the audiences attention with his presence and scary ring attire. Also seen as how he was the Undertakers brother, it allowed us to tap into The Deadman's emotional side something we thought we would never see.

Kane went onto to achieve many great things in his career, such as a role in his own movie, SEE NO EVIL which has done better in terms of gross revenue then any of John Cena's movies. He recently won the WHC something us true WWE fans have been waiting for, for a long time.

Mankind

We all new Mankind was one crazy guy who gained the reputation as the Hardcore Legend, however it was not until his match with Undertaker at King of the Ring 1998 where Taker through Foley of the cell on 2 occassions, that fans really got to appreciate what Mankind is all about.

Because of that match and his feud with Austin and the Rock along with winning this Tag team championships it allowed Foley to capture the WWE gold on 3 seperate occasions.

John Cena & Batista

5 of 9

You don't get any bigger then Batista and John Cena, for the PG Era they are perhaps the most revolutionary stars, they both have amazing chemistry with the crowd and although they are not the best in the ring, they are simply the best at what they do.

Batista

We all no what Batista is about, big, good physic and immense power. He was the enforcer in the stable Evolution, he is a multiple time World champion former Royal Rumble winner and he is no stranger to the tag team division, he has held the gold with such legends as Ric Lair and Rey Mysterio however most notably Cena.

Batista is one of those guys who is loved in the ring but outside he is not the most loved of characters, he had several altercations with superstars such as Khali and Booker T.

John Cena

Cena is one of those guys who you just can't yet he manages to climb through all he adversity stick he gets not only from the WWE Universe but from his fellow collegues.

Cena is a former Heavyweight Champion having held the belt over 9 times, he is also no starnger to big screen, where he has appeared as the star in 2 lead movies, 12 Rounds and The Marine, both blockbuster flops but what do you expect from Wrestlers who make movies, besides the Rock of course.

Edge & Randy Orton

6 of 9

Edge and Randy Orton are the complete Opposite to Cena and Batista in every way. They are both power heels, but carry along with them a hos of rebel fans. They hold numerous singles titles between them, they both have won the royal rumble and have both headlined Wrestlemania.

Edge

Edge has been climbing his way to the top since the late 90's when he teamed up with Christian and Gangrel as part of the brood. He and Christian then created a tag team and became one of the most successful tag teams in the history of the WWE, Edge and Christian then suffered what we no as the Rocker Syndrome, where Edge stampeded his way through the top and became one of the biggest stars in the company today.

Randy Orton

Orton is defiantly a guy who screams out talent. Like Batista he started making an impact when he was part of Evolution, his feud with Mankind and Undertaker was truly something. he became the youngest ever WWE champion when he defeated Chris Benoit at Summerslam 2004.

Ever since then he has chased after the gold, having feuds with Cena and HHH in particular.Orton is now been referred to as the Stone Cold of the PG Era, hopefuly he will have the same success as the rattlesnake did.

Rock & Mankind

7 of 9

The Rock and Sock Connection, defiantly one of the WWE's finer moments.

Mankind

Unlike his stint with Kane, Mankind was seen as a different person when he teamed up with the Rock he became more of a clown as the team was considered more as comedy relief then anything.

The Rock

You don't get bigger then the peoples champion, The rock is one of the biggest star both in Hollywood and in wrestling. He started of as the son of Rocky Maivia, a young charismatic performer some what reminiscent of Kofi Kingston and Koko Beware. wever the one thing that separated him from hose stars was his amazing Mic Skills. This allowed him to ventur into new segments and promos that will be remembered moe then the matches themselves.

The Rock and Mankind still hold the record for the highest ever rating segment on RAW. When they had The Rock toasted in " This is your life"

Stone Cold & HHH

8 of 9

The Two man Power Trip, were one of the most dominating alliances in the history of the WWE, they wrecked havoc week in week out, capturing nearly every major championship. Although not popular with the fans, they did however manage to make other stars like Benoit and Jericho to become more domineering as wrestlers. There feud with the Brothers of Destruction and there match with Benoit and Jericho were truly stuff of legends.

HHH

The Game has been backstabbing people since the days of the Clique, he has been aligning himself with all kinds of superstars from Rikishi to The Radicalz, yet no one would of ever imagined HHH teaming up with Austin let alone the pair becoming tag team champions.

HHH is a genius in the ring, his size does not stop him from performing hard hitting maneuvers such as spine busters, and suplexes, he was one of the most decorated champions in history. He has also starred in several movies and Tv- Shows including Blade 3, he was rumored to also play Thor from the Marvel Comics.

Austin

HHH maybe a genius but Stone Cold is a magician, he may not have a lot of moves in his arsenal, however he manages to make any arena go crazy when he signals one of his specials. Austin has been in the game for along time, he has won nearly every major championship and has feuded with nearly every single wrestler, including the boss Vince McMahon.

Austin is now in the movie business and has appeared in a number of major block busters, such as The Condemend, Longest yard, Expendebles and others.
