UFC 118 Does It Right With Another Crowd-Pleasing PPV Card

Bill CodyAug 26, 2010

This weekend, the UFC will show once again why it is one of the fastest rising sports around.

They give the fans what they want. All of the fans.

Coming off two amazing headline fights, Silva v. Sonnen and Lesner v. Carwin. It will be hard to top those two fights, but Dana White and Co. are going to give it a try.

For the purists who want to see a couple of top young fighters go at it, there's Kenny Florian vs. Gray Maynard. This should be a good one.

For the casual fan looking for a circus freak event, there's the "boxing vs. MMA" match. Randy Couture vs. James "Lights Out" Toney.

I don't think much of this fight myself, but it sure has a lot of people excited.

I'm a big fan of both of these guys, but I don't think Toney has earned a shot against Couture, and I don't think he can beat him.

James hasn't been a hard hitter in years, so he'll have to wear Couture down with his punches. I don't see Couture allowing Toney to stand up long enough to accomplish anything.

Couture would get killed by Toney in a boxing match. But this is MMA.

I just hope no one gets hurt.

Then there's the main event. It should be a good one.

Frankie Edgar knocked off BJ Penn in a major upset the last time they faced off, but Penn has been one of the top fighters in the UFC for a number of years. Penn should get his title back in a hard-fought match.

Either way, a lot of people will plunk down 44.95 for the right to see it.

Because there's something for everyone.
