Jim Furyk, 40, of the PGA Tour overslept this morning and missed his Pro-Am tee time.

This disqualified the golf great from the first tournament of the PGA Tour playoffs, The Barclays at the Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey.

So what exactly happened that caused this problem?

Furyk set his cell phone alarm early enough for Wednesday morning to arrive at the course for his 7:30 am tee time. But during the night, his phone ran out of battery power, so it never rang.

He woke up at around 7:23 am, and arrived at 7:35 am, five minutes too late. The tee time should have already started by then. Furyk wasn't even wearing proper clothes for a round of golf. He was not wearing his socks or his belt. To add to that, his shoes were untied.

He is currently third in the FedEx Cup standings in points, so it could have been worse if his rank was lower, though it will certainly hurt his place.

According to the PGA Tour, Furyk will likely stay in the top 10.

Furyk is very disappointed, saying, "What is the worst part of it? There are a lot of worst parts. It's a great golf course. I was looking forward to the event. I’m third in [FedExCup] points, so to possibly severely hurt a good year...I played my heart out all year, so to then limit myself to one less event than the rest of the field."

If it wasn't for his phone, he could have gotten some points to keep ahead in the standings.
