Sidney Rice and 10 NFL Injuries Every Fantasy Owner Must Know About
Sidney Rice is going to miss significant time because of injury. Unless you have already had your fantasy draft, you might want to check this list.
And if you have drafted Rice already, you might want to start patrolling the waiver wire for some backups because this looks serious.
Reports are that Rice will more than likely miss half of the season because of surgery on his injured hip.
As you probably remember, he was Brett Favre's favorite receiver last year.
Here's a list of injuries you should keep track of before the season starts...
10. Cardinals Receivers : Early Doucet and Larry Fitzgerald
1 of 11
Fitzgerald has an ailing knee and Doucet has a nagging abdominal problem.
They both are questionable for the rest of preseason and probable for the regular-season start.
Because Matt Leinart hasn't looked that great this preseason, if you combine that with these injuries you might want to be careful picking up Arizona catchers.
9. Denver Running backs: Moreno, White and Buckhalter
2 of 11
Correll Buckhalter is suffering from stingers, and Knowshon Moreno and LenDale White are trying to heal ailing hamstrings.
Combine that with White having to miss the first four games because of a suspension and you have a precarious situation in the Broncos backfield.
Keep an eye on it as you draft.
8. Michael Jenkins
3 of 11
Jenkins has a shoulder injury that will keep him out all of the preseason and has him questionable for the first game of the regular season.
Jenkins starts across form Roddy White for Atlanta and the first game is against a heavy-hitting Pittsburgh defense.
You might not want to draft him too high.
7. Carolina Studs: Smith and Stewart
4 of 11
It's hard to bet against Steve Smith as he is one of the toughest players in the league, pound for pound.
But just to let you know, he is still recovering from a broken hand, so maybe you pass on him early and see if he is still there late.
Running back Jonathan Stewart had off-season surgery and is recovering from an Achilles injury.
He will still backup DeAngelo Williams and get the goal line carries, but I'm not sure if this will happen early in the season.
6. Antonio Bryant
5 of 11
High dollar off-season free-agent acquisition Antonio Bryant has yet to suit up for the Bengals. He remains hopeful that his knee injury won't keep him sidelined for the start of the season.
Doesn't it feel like we are going to have a TO-Ochocinco starting wide receiver tandem on the field for game one against the Patriots?
Draft accordingly.
5. Mohamed Massaquoi
6 of 11
Mohamed Massaquoi is suffering from a strained hamstring, and is listed as questionable for the next preseason game.
Massaquoi will be Jake Delhomme's No. 1 wide receiver if he is healthy. He had a pretty good rookie season in 2009 and should get even better if his hamstring holds up.
You might want to look at him in the middle rounds.
4. Dez Bryant
7 of 11
Bryant is still fighting his ankle injury, and will most likely miss Saturday's preseason game against the Texans.
His upside is off the charts, but until he performs on the field it's all just speculation. Don't go crazy and waste a spot on the roster early when you can get him late.
3. Buffalo Running Backs: Jackson and Lynch
8 of 11
I have big news for fantasy owners, (how often can you say that about Buffalo players?).
Fred Jackson is out the rest of the preseason, and questionable for the start of the regular season.
Combine that with news that Marshawn Lynch is nursing an ankle injury and will also miss a total of 3-4 weeks and you have the perfect situation to take a shot at rookie C.J. Spiller earlier in the draft than you might have thought.
This is my draft day surprise pick.
2. Sidney Rice
9 of 11
Rice missing half the season is a very serious blow for the Vikings.
And with Percy Harvin suffering from migraines, both Bernard Berrian and Visanthe Shiancoe become higher draft picks in my opinion.
Favre is a gunslinger so he'll find new weapons until Rice comes back.
1. Donovan McNabb
10 of 11
New Washington Redskins QB Donovan McNabb was caught on camera wearing a protective boot on his left ankle on Monday and did not practice.
Combining this injury with him being unfamiliar with this new offense, and having less weapons than he did in Philly, means you might want to wait a while before drafting "DMC."
Come back to him after grabbing a couple wide receivers and running backs.
He'll be there.
