New Orleans Saints Training Camp Update: Closing Up Shop
The New Orleans Saints will continue to hold practices up until the 30th of August. Some of these practices will be open to the public, while others will be closed. While most NFL teams are wrapping up training camp and taking the show back to their regular season practice fields, the Saints will continue to open some of their practices to the public and keep on with a training camp atmosphere.
The following includes some of highlights from the last week of New Orleans Saint’s practices.
Saints-Texans Joint Practice
1 of 6
The New Orleans Saints and the Houston Texans have held three joint practices together this week and things were going very well, but in the last practice, something happened. Players on both teams started two fights during the practice session, which was held in the Louisiana Superdome.
The first fight started when New Orleans safety Chip Vaughan dragged Houston running back Chris Henry down by the hair. Every player on both team's sidelines jumped into the fray, but the fight didn’t get that out of hand.
Saints backup guard Brandon Carter and Houston linebacker Kevin Brantley, along with New Orleans safety Pierson Prioleau got into a bit of an argument, as well. A lot of “bad blood” was exhibited during that final practice. That should make the game that much more interesting.
Injury Update

Here are some of the players that have been injured as of late and their status:
Safety Usama Young was still recovering from a groin injury and has seen light work in practice. Right tackle Jon Stinchcomb bruised his shoulder and didn’t practice. Safety Darren Sharper remains sidelined with his healing knee and linebacker Clint Ingram still hasn’t practiced. Rookie tight end Jimmy Graham still has a sore ankle and has not participated in drills since injuring it against the Patriots in their first game of the preseason.
Chasing Second
3 of 6
“Wannabe” second string quarterback Chase Daniel had himself a very nice game against the Houston Texans on Saturday night, and furthered his possibilities of making the team as a second string quarterback. During the game, Daniels threw three touchdown passes and looked like a seasoned pro behind center. If he can perform like this in the next couple of preseason games, he will be a lock to be the second quarterback on the roster.
Sharper Returning?
4 of 6
Word around the organization is that safety Darren Sharper is feeling better, but will be cutting it close to make it back by the first week of the season. He had knee surgery during the offseason and has not been able to make it back as quick as he and the team had thought that he would. But he promises to be back by the first game of the season (against the Vikings), and it’s doubtful that Sharper would want to miss that game (against his former team).
Getting Some Recognition
5 of 6
Throughout their preseason games and training camp, several players have stood out for the Saints. Two of those players include Reggie Bush and Adrian Arrington.
Bush, who has not lived up to expectations since being drafted by the Saints just a few seasons ago, has had a very strong preseason so far. Arrington had a very good game against the Texans, and looks like someone who might be able to stick with the Saints, despite the fact that they have so many good wide receivers. Keep an eye on him, he just might make an impact during the season.
Comings and Goings

The Saints waived fullback Marcus Mailei and signed former Chicago Bears fullback Jason McKie. They also put running back P.J. Hill on injured reserve with a leg injury, and signed running back DeShawn Wynn.
