Boxing: Tomaz Adamek Beats Michael Grant

Colin LinneweberAug 23, 2010

Polish scrapper Tomasz "Granite Chin" Adamek defeated used physical specimen Michael Grant to earn a surprisingly hard-fought unanimous decision victory at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

Adamek (42-1, 27 KOs), a former IBF cruiserweight champion, emerged victorious despite consistently getting pummeled by the Adonis.

"I was ready for a tough fight and ready to go 12 rounds," said Adamek, 33, a tough Pollack who owned the cruiserweight division for years. "I was prepared very well for the fight. I am upset because for the first time in my career, I got cut [over his left eye]. I'm not happy about that, but I'm happy about the win."

Grant (46-4, 34 KOs), once a legit heavyweight contender with a surreal physique, landed solid punches that surprisingly couldn’t violently startle the Pollack.

Grant's exhibition Saturday again emphasized that boxing is predicated off skill and not size and strength.

Essentially, Grant beat Adamek like a clown-pocket.

Nevertheless, Adamek won because he is, and always was, a better pugilist than Grant.

Tough guys win and lose in the squared circle.

Boxers generally win in the ring.

Tomasz Adamek is not stronger than Michael Grant.

Still, he’s a better pugilist and, therefore, Michael Grant doesn’t belong in the same ring as him.
