Memo To Rex Ryan: It's Only August Super Bowls Are Won In February

Ronnie HampstonAug 23, 2010

We all know that Super Bowls are not won in August. To a surprise Rex Ryan has been talking a lot of crap this off-season. He first made headlines by dropping several F bombs on the HBO show Hard Knocks.Rex Ryan is a tough son of a gun. He will say whatever comes to mind. Recently he threw jabs at rival quarterback Tom Brady. The players on the Jets love Rex Ryan's brash personality and he adds fuel to their fire.

Rex Ryan is a great football mind. Last season his New York Jets surprised many football experts by leading them to the AFC Championship. They were led by then rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. Sanchez was a game manager at best while the team relied on a strong run game and the best defense in the NFL. During last seasons strong campaign the Jets grew confident as the year went on. That attitude has carried on in the off-season.

It's great to play for a head coach like Rex Ryan, but his predictions and arrogant statements may come back to haunt his team. The Jets gained a lot this off-season by trading for wide out Santonio Holmes and CB Antonio Cromartie. They also signed future hall of famers in Ladanian Tomlinson and Jason Taylor. On paper the Jets look like a super bowl team. With all of the positive acquisition there are many distractions that can hinder the team as well. There have been contract disputes with the Jets two most important players Nick Mangold and Darrelle Revis. The Jets also lost Alan Faneca and Kerry Rhodes it will be hard replacing the intangibles those players brought to the field every Sunday.

The one key to this years team will be quarterback play. Mark Sanchez has the weapons on offense, but I don't know if he will be consistent enough to emerge in his second year. The Jets also have a brutal schedule this season. They open up the season playing the Ravens and the Pats. Both teams will be amped to beat the Jets, because of Ryan's ties with Ravens organizations as a Defensive Coordinator and the intense rivalry between the Jets and Pats. They also play the Bengals, Vikings, Steelers, Packers, and Texans in non conference games. This will be a tough task for the Jets and it will be tougher if they do not sign All-Pro CB Darrelle Revis. Revis island will become touchdown island if they do not pay the man what he deserves.

The Jets will be a very intriguing team this upcoming season it will be interesting to see how things will shake up.
