The “Fight On” Spirit Still Continues

Pardon My Bias Bleacher ReportAug 22, 2010

As we head into the new college football season, many are wondering about how USC football will respond after all the sanctions imposed on them this summer. From all the local reports, it seems as though Lane Kiffin and the Men of Troy are working very hard and are preparing for the new season like every other season in the past. The whole USC story has many subplots and has attracted so much attention after their disappointing finish to last year’s season season. First, Pete Carroll bolts for the Seattle Seahawks position. The entire coaching coach is replaced with Lane Kiffin, Monte Kiffin and Ed Orgeron. Kiffin then makes headlines (what else is new?) for trying to bring in recruits from Tennessee. Soon after that, USC has serious sanctions placed on the team and denied bowl eligibility. Kiffin is again in the news (for bringing in RB coach Kennedy Pola, without the Titan’s approval). Finally, the school appoints Pat Haden as the new AD to replace Mike Garrett.

Even with so many changes, it is nice to hear that the USC spirit is still intact. The players and coaching staff are working hard to still play hard nosed USC football and win every game possible. Matt Barkley now has one year as starter under him and the defense looks to be solid under the guidance of Monte Kiffin. Since the school has appealed some of their sanctions, many players are hopeful that doing well this year can bring huge returns for next years team. The hope is that the bowl ban will be one year rather than two years.

This year will be a huge test for this team, but I think that they are still capable of doing extremely well and competing in the PAC-10. They start their season of in Hawaii on September 2nd and lets hope that they kick butt and prove to the NCAA that the spirit in Troy never dies!

Fight ON!!
