Five Reasons Brett Favre Is Still Must-See TV
If you tune in to watch Brett Favre take his 10 snaps vs the 49ers you might have that deja vu feeling. It seems every year we all gather around our televisions to see what Favre will look like to start the season.
However, this year comes with a whole new set of interesting storylines. Here I give you five reasons to go through the drama of Brett Favre's debut one last time.
A "Chilly" Relationship?
1 of 5
Much has been made regarding the latest drama between Favre and Childress in the last few days. We all know the news by now that Favre doesn't like Chilly's approach to play-calling and not much has been said publicly since the story broke.
Most of us can see from a mile away how this soap opera will play out because at the end of the day it is Favre who holds the ball. If he wants to change a play, run his own play, or run one of Brad's--ultimately he will have the last say.
Keep an eye on the body language in this game.
How's That Ankle?
2 of 5
There is a lot of speculation about the true nature of the ankle saga. Is it actually gimpy? Was it just a convenient excuse so he could arrive at camp late? 10 snaps might not be enough for us to find out, but it will be a topic of discussion to be sure.
Is There Another "Schism" On the Team?
3 of 5
There are more rumblings about Favre and his preferential treatment again this season. A sweetened contract with a boatload of incentives has some players wondering, "what about me?". Throw in the fact that he missed all the OTA's and training camp and it's pretty clear he's achieved Presidential status.
Some say that he has earned these perks and the team doesn't really have any leverage with him. Even if that is true, one has to wonder if his teammates will be giving it their all given their low status on the totem poll.
Favre will be spending a lot of time on the sidelines in this game and you know that the cameras will be on him more than the game. It will be interesting to see how he's interacting with his teammates. Let's just hope he doesn't come up with another "pants on the ground".
Media Love-fest
4 of 5
I will set the over/under for how many times the commentators mention Favre's name during the broadcast at 50. The annual love-fest with the Wrangler mascot is sure to be in full-flight and will continue all the way through until the post-game press-conference.
It could get a tad nauseating by then, but one quote I'll especially be looking forward to is, "it was awesome".
The Unknown
5 of 5
One undeniable fact about his persona is the fact that the guy is flat-out entertaining. He knows how to work the media and it's anyone's guess what could come out of his first preseason game. What new storylines will surface? Will it be much-ado about nothing? It's always a bit of guessing game with Favre and it's one of the reasons we all tune in to see him.
A lot of fans around the league might not be happy that he's returned for yet another season because he is a one-man circus, but there are two important groups that are ecstatic about it--the NFL and the TV networks.
Because whether you like him or not, we'll all be tuning in to see him.
