Illinois High School Football: Notice Greg Gordon, Top Defensive Talent

Mike PendletonAug 21, 2010

We all know G stands for Gatorade and G2 is suppose to be the evolution of it. The only true G2 evolution is Bolingbrook High School's Greg Gordon, a star defensive end. Gordon, who is another future star collegiate player from Bolingbrook, knows what it takes to get to the top, sharing everything with the readers out there who need to recognize his play.

Gordon, a 6'3" 230-pound defensive end is not your average one special player. He does it all, "While many say I am a run stop end I know for myself that given a pass situation when a play is needed I will make it. I have the ability to turn the jets on and take the quarterback down."

Taking quarterbacks down, making plays behind the line of scrimmage, creating havoc those are all qualities Gordon has on the football field. He also has off-field qualities that you should know of. "My goals that I dream of while playing to make it to the next level, collegiate, I know with my hard work ethic I can make it.

"Outside of football I do enjoy playing basketball, but when football is here I only focus on Football, Family and Friends. Not to mention faith, every day I wake up I have faith in everyone, including myself." All this from a junior in high school who is determined to make it.

No selfishness in this kid either, "I just want people to know that when I play I play to win, point blank. I want to make that player across from me, remember me, have nightmares about me, tell their coaches they don't want to face me. I do also realize that my team comes first. If I have zero sacks and zero tackles and we win, I'm happy."

Staying close to home Gordon talks about who he models his game after saying "I play like, Michigan State defensive end Colin Neely. I'm a huge fan of college football because they are only a few years older then me and I learn the best from them. I would love to play in the Big Ten conference. Michigan St or Illinois would be a dream come true."

When the doubters arrive Gordon cracks a smile and says, "I want people to wake up and stop sleeping on Greg Gordon, I'm going to do the work whether there are ten people in the crowd or 100,000 people packed in a stadium."

With rival Downers Grove South scheduled for the first week of the season Gordon begins to get amped "I can't wait to step on the field and hit pads, it's been too long of a wait and we simply want to beat them because we know we can."

Determination, that is all this young man and young great player needs. The hype doesn't matter to Gordon who simply wants pads, a football, and a field give him that and let him do the rest. G2 is here and unlike Gatorade, his talents aren't for sale.
