Wyndham Championship: Arjun Atwal Goes for Broke on Sunday
Arjun Atwal is playing strictly for money this weekend. Did I say that yet?
Atwal cannot make the Fed Ex Cup playoffs. He has lost his tour card recently, coming back too soon from injuries, and re-injuring his shoulders.
He needs to win, and so far is still playing like a man possessed.
This is what it's like to step it up big time when your career and earning powers are threatened.
A win here would be oh so sweet for this journeyman professional trying to regain his tour card.
Atwal is the leader so far, wire-to-wire and reaching minus-17 and a three shot lead.
One more good round to Atwal please. I can live with that this week. Let my fantasy guys get second, third, and fourth.
Scott McCarron also played himself into a chance to move up and qualify for the Fed Ex play offs coming soon now. Mccarron is 14-under and needing a first or second place to make the playoffs.
Scott Piercy is also minus-14 along with perhaps the most dangerous player to Atwal on Sunday in Lucas Glover, a US Open winner.
In Yahoo Fantasy Golf I have Garrett Willis and Kevin Na playing well with a chance to win also and regain some points lost in the last two weeks.
Boo Weekley is my C player, currently at minus-eight. He is a bit too far back to be considered in the hunt for a win, however.
Yahoo is slow with their points so I will update you on my position tomorrow as the Wyndham Championship draws to a conclusion.
Next week will start the Fed Ex Cup playoffs at The Barclays, played at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus New Jersey.
This week a few guys playing well can make a move to get in the Fed Ex Cup mix.
Watch Sunday, as Arjun Atwal tries to go wire to wire with his lead and a win plus an invite to fame and fortune once again.
