Charging Ahead? Top Five Teams Who Need to Make a Move

Evan HigginsAug 21, 2010

In the latest NFL holdout, it looks like Vincent Jackson will get his wish to be traded.

The 6'5", 230lbs wide receiver out of Northern Colorado recorded back-to-back 1,000 yard plus seasons.

Jackson, one of two Charger holdouts, has been allowed to speak to the Seattle Seahawks about a deal that could make him one of the highest-paid receivers in the league.

Some questions weather or not he deserves it, as he has yet to have a true-elite season.

As a restricted free agent, Jackson was tendered at $3.268 million, but he wants a long-term deal that the Chargers are unwilling to give out.

Jackson hopes to either get the money, or be traded to a team that is willing to give it to him. Here are my top five teams I believe should make a move to acquire Jackson.

5. Seattle Seahawks

Honestly, I don't like the move of Jackson going to Seattle.

Seattle has already put too much into their receiving core, have signed TJ Houshmandzadeh to a long-term contract, selecting receiver Golden Tate in the second round of this year's draft, and having former Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch still sticking around.

With all that, adding Jackson would only cause trouble with their depth at receiver, some players wanting more playing time that they are not able to get.

Although, Seattle is the only team that Jackson has talked to, and more and more reports come in that they will be the team to land him.

4. Carolina Panthers

Carolina has yet to be named as a team that could be a potential landing spot for Jackson.

Even though Steve Smith is still one of the best receivers in the game, he only has a few more years in the tank before he starts to slow down.

Rookie's Brandon Lafell, Armanti Edwards and David Gettis provide depth, but none have showed they will be a consistent number two receiver like the Panthers like to have, and Dwayne Jarrett shouldn't even be mentioned because of how disappointing he has been.

Adding Jackson would follow the new scheme Carolina has, only having players under the age of 30.

Jackson would fit well with this run-first team, he could help take pressure off of Smith, and even get himself catches as their top red-zone target.

3. Washington Redskins

Washington made a good move by acquiring McNabb from Philadelphia, but he still lacks a true go-to-guy like he always had with the Eagles.

As of now, receivers Santana Moss and Devin Thomas are the Redskins two starters, neither one even fall into the top-20 category at their position.

Adding a weapon like Jackson would improve in many areas, including giving McNabb his true go-to-guy.

He would also take pressure off of guys like Moss and Thomas, giving them opportunites to make a big play while the defense is focused on Jackson.

2. Chicago Bears

Chicago continues to claim they are "comfortable with the receivers they have," but I don't buy into it.

None of the receivers that Chicago have are true no. 1 receivers, some i'd even question were two's.

All the Bears receivers would make great slot receivers, so they need to add a true no. 1 receiver to give them the opportunity to play their true position.

Adding Jackson would also allow Devin Hester to return to being a kick returner, the position he came into the league playing, being one of the top in the league when doing so.

We saw through Cutler that he lacked having a true go-to-guy, throwing 26 interceptions during the 2009 seasons. I don't see a coach being "comfortable" with that.

1. Oakland Raiders

5 of 5

Many will disagree with me, but I don't see Oakland being too far away from getting over a .500 record this season.

Jason Campbell was a really good pickup this offseason, as they finally have a consistent quarterback that can lead their team.

Campbell, although, does need a go-to-receiver that he currently does not have.

Oakland has a lot of potentialy-good receivers. None of which have yet to make a splash in the league, even with former seventh-overall pick Darrius Heyward-Bey on the roster.

Their current no. 1 receiver is Louis Murphy, who isn't anything special.

Vincent Jackson is a perfect fit for this offense, as his long frame would be perfect for Campbell as he tries to become the franchise quarterback of the Oakland Raiders.
