UFN 22 Co Main Event Changed: Danzig-Wiman II Is Now Oliveira-Escudero

Dale De SouzaAug 20, 2010

Looks like Mac Danzig might not be the only guy waiting for an injury to heal up.

Matt Wiman had to pull out of the co-main event of UFC's Fight Night 22 in Austin, TX earlier this week due to an undisclosed injury.

Had the injury not happened, Matt Wiman would have been standing across the cage from Ultimate Fighter 8 Lightweight Champ Efrain Escudero, who filled in for an injured Danzig.

So now it looks like the always-game Escudero will now be the one training for a new opponent.

The man he has to train for?

Charles Oliveira, the undefeated BJJ warrior who scored Submission Of The Night over Darren Elkins at UFC Live on Versus 2: Jones vs. Matyushenko by way of one sick armbar.

Originally, Mr. "Hecho en Mexico" was supposed to face John Gunderson, but as reported by MMA Junkie, Escudero opted to fill in for an injured Danzig before the injury.

It'll be interesting to see how both men handle themselves on the ground and standing up.

Olivera has beaten a handful of guys in his career, with six of his career wins coming by way of either TKO or KO and one win by decision.
The armbar victory over Elkins makes the sixth career win by submission for the promising young star who now finds himself at 13-0 professionally, so while Escudero will no doubt want to control Oliveira on the ground, it could be Oliveira that submits Escudero from off his back.
Then again, one of the two could try for a submission and get knocked out by a slam or they could be on the receiving end of a hook or a straight.
I guess we won't know where these two are going to want to take the fight until Sept. 15.
Either way, this fight is bound to be a lightweight classic on all fronts.
