League One Player Turns Down Premier League Club

Sam RobertsAug 20, 2010

Blackpool have suffered a setback in their bid to sign Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman after the player failed to agree personal terms.

The League One side agreed to let the 22-year-old discuss a move with the Premier League new boys, but for whatever reason things have not gone as planned.
A statement from Bournemouth said: "Brett travelled to discuss personal terms, but failed to agree a deal."

However, there is a chance that he could become a Blackpool player as the deal is thought not to be completely dead.

Quite what Pitman would offer the side remains to be seen, although he did score 28 goals in league Two last season to help fire his side to promotion, bringing his career tally to 62 in 197 appearances.

From an outside point of view it seems odd that any player would turn down a move from League One to the Premier League, but he must feel his is worth more than Blackpool are currently offering him. Furthermore, the side are Premier League tips for relegation and they need more players.

Without being privy to the exact details of negotiations it's impossible to tell just what's gone on and, as such, it seems likely that he will come in for some unfair flack in the press in coming days.

Indeed, it may not even be an issue of money and there's every chance that Pitman is concerned about how a move to Blackpool would fit in with his long-term development.
One thing's for sure though, if Blackpool are interested in him other club's must be keeping an eye on him.

Meanwhile, those who bet on Premier League games are unlikely to expect an upset when Blackpool meet Arsenal this weekend.
