High School Hoops: Johnny Daniels, Another Chicago Star In Making

Mike PendletonAug 19, 2010

Chicago has made some of the best basketball players in the world from Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, and Kevin Garnett to Duke great Jon Scheyer and Kentucky recruit Anthony Davis. Now on verge of another great player, Johnny Daniels, the city once again makes its statement for being the birth place of basketball greats.

While Daniels has a long way to go before the great label can be placed on him he's certainly got the tools in the making of one. Daniels who is only a sophomore at Foreman High School (Chicago,IL) had a great year as a freshman on Junior Varsity, averaging 14 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

Sitting down with the 6'4" 225-pound Daniels, you can not only sense the drive in this kid but just by the tone of his voice, the confidence he has to become one of the best players in this city.

Just a kid but playing like a grown man.

Q: Your new on to the high school circuit but what should everyone know about your game?

A: "Without sounding cocky but I compare myself to Carmelo Anthony and it's because I try to mold my game after his. With his size he can still dribble, shoot, drive and do everything that a great player is suppose to do while on the court. My main goal is to be effective on both ends of the court."

Under the radar, do you mind?

Q: With you being very young, your name may not pop up everywhere what is your drive?

A: "What drives me on the court is my family and community because they both are depending on me to become something because I have the talent, grades, and determination to become the best person and player I can be."

For your future.

Q: So your only in your second year of high school, what do you want people to know about you? Who should we know about that has seen your game?

A:"One of the most humbling experiences so far was participating in a five-star basketball camp in Deerfield, Illinois. I was also blessed to work out at camps that featured scouts from Kentucky and Ohio St.

People should know that I am all about the community. There have been many players that have come from the west side of Chicago but not all can achieve the highest level of their potential."

So there you have it folks, a young kid on a mission with the maturity of a young man and the talents of a star in the making. Johnny Daniels is here to play and won't back down for anyone or to anyone.
