Danica Patrick: Don't Count Her Out Yet

Camille JonesAug 19, 2010

Some love her, some hate her, some may ask "Why's that girl in a race suit?", but no doubt Danica Patrick has a good amount of fans backing her as the IndyCar Series heads into it's final stint of oval races. The last four stops on the schedule include a race at Chicago, Kentucky, Motegi, and Homestead- Each track of which Danica has a good memory of.

In 2005, her rookie season, Danica grabbed her first poles at both Chicago and Kentucky, and started second at Motegi, a track in which she learned the route to victory lane in 2008.

With only four previous oval races this season, she's grabbed three top tens, and one finish in 11th at Kansas, including one of her strongest races ever at Texas, finishing 2nd.

Even with struggles at Indy, she prevailed to finish 6th, stronger than she could have imagined after the loose conditions and her back-of-the-pack starting position.

It's clear road courses are a slow point in her driving skills, seeing as though she's finished with only one top 10 in the past few races, with a 6th at Toronto. And this weekend, with only one more stop on the road course stretch, Sonoma will be a race to watch even though her highest finish was 6th back in 2008 after starting on the front row.

With a return to Motegi, the place she once took the trophy home from, and a second visit to her home track of Chicagoland this year, after a 24th place finish in NASCAR, both of these tracks as well as Kentucky, where in which she has captured one pole, led laps, and had multiple top tens, It looks as though she may be in for at least a slight turn around to this rough season.

Will we see the green Go Daddy car in Victory Lane sometime this year? I'm not sure, but I have a good sense we will be seeing a smiling Danica in the near future.
