Germain Racing announced that Casey Mears will take over the #13 GEICO Toyota beginning in Atlanta on September 5th and will remain in the ride throughout next season. While Papis is out of the Cup ride, he will remain with the team and run the Camping World Truck Series full time for GEICO.
Nationwide Series to Get Chase?
Rumors have been flying for some time about the Chase coming to the Nationwide series, but Brian France spoke out this week saying it’s unlikely due to the shorter schedule of the Nationwide race.
Ambrose to Petty
Richard Petty Motorsports announced that Marcos Ambrose will move to the #9 Ford starting next season. Stanley Tools will come aboard as the sponsor, leaving the future of the team’s #19 machine in doubt. While the deal is confirmed to be for at least the next season, no contract length for driver or sponsor was announced.
Mobil 1 to SHR
With Shell moving to Penske, the coveted Mobil 1 sponsorship is on the market. Current reports have it going to Stewart Haas to replace Old Spice, who is leaving at season’s end. While no formal announcement has been made, sources say a deal is close.
Budweiser Announced as RCR Sponsor
It was announced early this week that Budweiser has signed on board with Richard Childress Racing and the #29 car piloted by Kevin Harvick. The deal includes 20 points races a season plus Speedweeks each year for the next three years.
