Set For the Future: Who the Top Five Quarterbacks Will Be In 2015
Quarterback is the most important position in all of sports. No team, no matter how talented, can win consistently for years and years without an elite man at the helm of their offense. The top NFL quarterbacks can do it all, from having the drive to work and the talent to be able to make the plays they have to make, to being able to lead a group of 53 men.
Right not, many have opinions on who the top five quarterbacks in the league are. I'd have to say my order is: Manning, Brees, Brady, Favre, and Romo.
However, like all great things, nothing lasts forever, and in a few years there will be five new quarterbacks at the top of the game.
This is my list of who the top five quarterbacks will be in 2015.
5. Chad Henne
1 of 5
A bit of a surprise here at number five, but there has never been any questions (even going back to his time at Michigan) about Chad Henne's ability to be a great quarterback.
First of all, the Dolphins have an outstanding running game, something that only serves to open up the passing for Henne and his newly aquired target, Brandon Marshall.
Quarterbacks are ultimately measured by their ability to win, and the Dolphins are my pick to represent the AFC in Super Bowl XLV. Mike Nolan and Karlos Dansby will greatly improve the Dolphins defense and Miami has a plethora of young weapons to complement Henne now and into the future, which is why he is where he is on this list.
4. Joe Flacco
2 of 5
Joe Flacco, the cannon-armed third year man out of Delaware, has every physical tool necessary to be a Super Bowl caliber quarterback. The 6'6" field general can make any throw on the football field, and is mobile for a big guy.
In his first two years in the league, Flacco has led the Baltimore Ravens to three playoff wins, including an AFC Championship game appearance.
Now, Flacco finally has a true number one wide receiver in Anquan Boldin and one of football's premier running backs in Ray Rice, who came into the league at the same time as Flacco.
Ultimately, Flacco is a proven winner who all has all the physical tools and assets on his team to be among the NFL's elite.
3. Matthew Stafford
3 of 5
Matthew Stafford has been greatly hyped ever since he was still attending Highland Park High School. When he committed to Georgia, Mel Kiper Jr. correctly predicted that Stafford would be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft when it was his time.
Stafford has a big arm and an ability to make plays with his legs as well, so he should have no trouble making all the NFL throws. He has lots of game experience, starting all three years at Georgia, and now has a very talented nucleus of offensive weapons to work with.
If the Lions continue to add good skill players, and the can shore up weakness on the offensive line, Stafford could be the NFL's top quarterback by the end of his career. But five years from now, he'll be number three.
2. Aaron Rodgers
4 of 5
I really debated about putting Rodgers No. 1 on this list ahead of the quarterback that is there. However, I decided to leave him at number two for factors I'll explain in the next slide.
Rodgers, like all the quarterbacks on this list, has the physical ability to make every throw. However, not only can he beat defenses with his arm, but with his legs. He rushed for over 300 yards and five touchdowns last season, making him not necessarily what would be considered a dual-threat, but he will at least have the potential to pick up a couple of yards if there is nothing downfield.
Rodgers has the best team currently around him on this list, which is ultimately what helps him most. The Packers have the pieces in place to win a Super Bowl right now, and if they can that automatically vaults him to the top of this list because of the experience it will give him.
Rodgers is likely the most talented quarterback on this list right now, and were it not for some of the intangibles of the number one quarterback, he would be holding the top spot.
1. Matt Ryan
5 of 5
Ryan was considered by many to be the most NFL-ready prospect of our time when he came out of Boston College in the 2008 NFL Draft. While Ryan is extremely physically gifted, the intagible things are what will make him an elite quarterback.
Ryan has the build of a top quarterback, able to make all the necessary throws and big enough to withstand the beating taken at quarterback. The Falcons also have the team around him in place, with stud running back Michael Turner to balance the offense and solid pass-catching weapons in veteran Tony Gonzalez and emerging star Roddy White.
However, as stated before, the reason he will be the top quarterback in 2015 are the things you can't measure. He has been compared to Tom Brady because of his leadership ability and has been very professional throughout his short career, even going back to when he was first drafted, when he got a deal done early to avoid a lengthy holdout.
Add Ryan's physical prowess, the great team the Falcons are building around him, and most importantly, the intagibles he possesses, and Matt Ryan will be the NFL's top signal caller five years from now.
