Brett Favre: 10 Reasons This Isn't the Quarterbacks Last Season

Brian ShannonAug 18, 2010

Brett Favre is officially returning for yet another football season. For awhile it looked as though this might be the year Favre finally hangs them up, but now that he is back again, I'm giving you ten reasons why he will play for at least two more seasons.

Love For The Game

1 of 10

Favre obviously loves playing on Sundays or he wouldn't be coming back for his 20th season. Favre has made an NFL record 285 straight starts, another indication of how badly he wants to be on the field.

Favre continues to take hits and his body gets more beat up each year, but he still manages to make his way onto the field. Favre's love for the game is one of the main factors that will keep him playing beyond this season.

The Vikings Are Contenders

2 of 10

The Vikings went to the NFC Championship last season and were within a minute of heading to Miami and the Super Bowl when things went terribly wrong. Favre was picked off late in the game as the Vikings were almost in Ryan Longwell's range for a game winning field goal try.

With players like running back Adrian Peterson and wide receiver Percy Harvin around him, the Vikings will once again be one of the favorites to win the NFC.

The Money

3 of 10

Favre has 20 million reasons to play next season, the money. Favre made $16 million last season and he will reportedly make another $20 million this season. It would be hard to envision Favre taking a pay cut next year. He doesn't need the money at this point in his caree,r but its just another reason for him to keep playing for years to come.

The Records

4 of 10

Favre already holds the record for career passing yards, completions and touchdowns. Favre will want to put his records further out of reach, especially his consecutive games started streak.

Favre is in the top five of almost all statistical records a quarterback can have and he will want to keep obtaining more. The only way for Favre to do that is to stay on the field, and that is what he will do for at least two more seasons. The only bad news for Favre is that his career record for interceptions thrown will undoubtedly go up as well.

The Attention

5 of 10

Every summer a new Favre watch begins, and it is pretty clear at this point that Favre loves every bit of it. With his every move the media watches with anticipation, waiting to see if Favre is coming back or not.

Favre could retire and still get some level of media attention or a job as a broadcaster, but Favre enjoys the attention he gets for playing football more than anything. No other player in the NFL gets as much air time for working with high school kids as Favre, and if he were to retire that would all go away.

The Vikings Need Him

6 of 10

The Vikings are loaded on defense with players like Jared Allen and Antoine Winfield, and on offense with play makers at the skill positions like Harvin and Peterson. But if the Vikings were to lose Favre they would be in a world of hurt, left with Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels.

Neither quarterback would give the Vikings the chance Favre would to get to the Super Bowl. Favre is the Vikings' most important player at football's most important position and the Vikings need him to be a Super Bowl contender beyond this season.

Unfinished Business

7 of 10

After blowing a chance to get the Vikings to the Super Bowl last season, Favre is returning again this season to try and do the task again. Favre wants to win another Super Bowl badly and will have another good shot at doing it this season.

Favre and the Vikings will come up short once again this season, falling in the NFC Championship once again this season, this time to the Cowboys.

A Return Trip To Hawaii

8 of 10

The Pro Bowl returns to Hawaii next season, and Favre will be ready for another free trip to the islands. Favre has been named to the Pro Bowl 11 times in his career, including the last three seasons.

Favre continues to play at a very high level so he can count on another trip to the NFL's All Star game when he returns again next season.

His Legacy

9 of 10

Favre wants to leave the game as the best quarterback to ever play the game. He has the records and the ring to put his name near the top of the list, but adding to his records and getting another ring would only help Favre's case as the game's best.

Favre wants to go out on a winning note, and who knows, if the Vikings do win the Super Bowl this season he will probably have to return to defend the crown.

He Always Comes Back

10 of 10

Just when you think Favre is done, he's back. Favre has already announced his retirement from the league only to come back. He has talked about having nothing left to give, and he yet returned. He's fought off nagging injuries and endured surgery on his ankle, and yet he returned again.

You may think this will be Favre's last season, but then he's back.
