Brett Favre Press Conference: 10 Biggest Questions Facing His Return

Brian DiTullioAug 18, 2010

It's official, Brett Favre has returned to the Vikings.

Now the questions everyone have been pondering all summer become reality, and it's time to look at what Favre brings to the Vikings this year, as well as how his age and injuries may negatively impact the situation.

These past few offseasons, the will he or won't he of Favre's return has been the offseason drama of the 21st Century. However, this time he faces questions that are different in some respects than the ones he had to answer last year.

Whatever happens, Favre is back and the 2010 season only is a few short weeks away.

How Will Favre's Surgically Repaired Ankle Respond?

Favre revealed during his press conference that he had some bone spurs removed from his ankle, but that a new spur was already developing.

While Favre said his range of motion on the ankle is better than it was before the surgery, it isn't as good as he was hoping it would be.

The question now is whether or not the new bone spur continues to grow, and just how well the ankle will be able to take a 16-game pounding.

Favre showed up to training camp about the same time last year, played a little in preseason and then started Week One.

Can he do it again?

The answer isn't as simple as it sounds. While the offense is mainly the same, every year brings its own unique set of challenges. While there is no doubt he'll play in Week One, he may not necessarily be the starter.

Will Brett Favre Start all 16 Games?

There were some questions last year as to how much Favre would play, and if he actually would start all 16 games, even if healthy. Favre did, but that doesn't mean it will happen this year.

Favre had his first practice on Wednesday, and said it went well, but with Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels having been there longer, it's not outside the realm of possibility to see Favre as the backup at some point in 2010.

Note that it is possible, but unlikely.

Will Favre Make It Through a 16 Game Season?

Regardless of how many games Favre starts, the question of whether or not his body will hold up for 16 games is a legitimate one.

The possibility of injury exists for everyone in the NFL, even rookies. But its especially a concern for Favre's 41-year old body.

There's always a chance he hits a wall at some point in the season and his body just says, "enough."

Time will tell.

Will The Packers Games Have the Same Grudge Factor?

Favre got his revenge on the Packers last year, so the question is: Will Favre play the Packers with the same emotion he did in 2009?

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers will be looking to avenge last year's defeats, and Favre may or may not have the edge he had last year.

Both games will be interesting, but the Vikings may not be the ones to come out on top this time.

Can Favre Throw for Another 4,000 Yards?

Favre said in his press conference that his arm is good. He threw for 4,202 yards in 2009 with the highest completion percentage of his career.

The arm finished the season in good shape, so the only question is what one more year of wear and tear has done to it.

As long as the offense focuses on a pass-heavy scheme there's no reason to think he won't put up monster numbers again, but that's why they play the games.

Does Favre Need to Throw for Another 4,000 Yards to Make the Playoffs?

Adrian Peterson, one of the best running backs in the game at the moment, is still on the Vikings roster. So the question is, does Favre HAVE to throw for 4,000 yards for the Vikings to make the playoffs?

If Peterson can put together a 2,000-yard rushing season that will take a lot of pressure off of Favre regarding the questions he faces due to his advanced age.

Will Favre Finally Solve His Interception Problem?

Interceptions are going to happen, it's part of being an NFL quarterback.

But Favre's gun-slinging style has made the lives of his fans suspenseful when it seems like he's just throwing the ball up for grabs and trying to force a play.

It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but Favre had the fewest interceptions of his career last year. It's not hard to believe age may finally be making him throw the ball into triple coverage less.

Can Favre Lead This Team to the Postseason?

Favre is a proven veteran who has led teams to the playoffs before.

At the soon-to-be age of 41 the question is: can he still do it?

Favre will not only have to be physically up to the task, he'll have to be mentally up to it as well. If he starts thinking to himself, "I'm getting too old for this," the Vikings are in trouble.

Favre said during his press conference that a 20-year career is a good one.

Does anyone believe him at this point?
