Chuck Liddell : Five Possible Fights, Options, And Outcomes

Joshua BoykenAug 18, 2010

Chuck Liddell is one of the greatest light heavy weight fighters in the history of mma. He has huge wins over Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, Renato Sobral, Wanderlei Silva, and many more. He has became known as one of the hardest hitters in mma, until his downfall to Rampage at UFC 71.

Chuck has recently been on the opposite side of the punches. He has lost five of his last six, and four of those losses by devestaing knockout. Chuck has continued to fight the best, yet continues to be knocked out by the best.

His most recent opponent was the ever so dangerous Rich "Ace" Franklin (who filled in for the injured Tito Ortiz). Chuck was dropped late in the first round after breaking Rich's arm with a head kick. In all likely hood if he was fighting Tito that night he would've won.

After being knocked out, rumors arose that he was going to retire. Dana announced that Chuck will be pushed in to retirement, although Chuck began to deny retirement. Now the question is still in the air, is Chuck going to retire, or is he going to fight on, and if so against who?

5. Jon Jones - last fight Vladimir Matyushenko TKO 1st win

Sadly, speculation grew after jones' dominated Vladmir in his last performnce that he may get a Chuck Liddell fight. Jon "Bones" Jones needs a big win over a legendary or well known opponent. If he could land a Chuck Liddell fight, it wouldn't mean much to  the big mma fans, but to the average fan it would a great win for Jon Jones.

For Chuck Liddell it would be throwing him to the lions. This would truely be an embarassing fight that would make Chuck retire. Chuck has great takedown defense, but I see Jon Jones throwing him down and dominating the hall of famer.

Chance of Happening : Very, very slim chances of accumulating. Dana White is too good of friends to let Chuck go out there in a extremely tough fight for him.

Outcome : Jon "Bones" Jones TKO 1st

4. Stephan Bonnar -last fight Krzysztof Soszynski TKO 2nd win

As far as Chuck having a tough kid that will fight him, this is a real good fight. Stephan will stand up and trade as long as he could, and then look for a way to win. Chuck has the advantage on the feet as far as power and technical striking goes. Stephan Bonnar has only been stopped due to cuts. Bonnar is a tough kid, but this would be a good rebound opponent for Chuck if he wanted in it for the long run.

Chance of happening : If Chuck could get with Dana on his future, and talk him into letting him fight. This fight could pop up in many peoples head. But as of now I don't see this fight happening.

Outcome : Chuck TKO 2nd

3. Forrest Griffin - Last fight UD win over Tito Ortiz

Forrest has always had a questionable chin. He has been caught by some good fighters and took it, and others didn't take it so well. This fight could be very interesting, and sale very well. If Forrest could beat Chuck, it could really get him back to the top (even thought Chuck has lost a lot recently he is still a big win).  If Chuck could beat Forrest, in alot of people's opinions he just defeated a top five light-heavyweight. Could make for a very good fight, or a very big knockout for Chuck.

Chances of Happening : If Chuck does continue to fight, I can definitely see this fight being made. Chuck won't want to fight an opponent that won't move him up, victory over Forrest will do exactly that. I can see it happening if Chuck comes back, maybe not his next fight, but in the future (if there is a future)

Outcome : Forrest Griffin UD (I can definitely see Chuck winning by TKO though)

2. Retirement

Dana White stated before Chuck's most recent fight that if he loses he will retire. Chuck, following the fight, did not make any type of retirement and hinted at fighting on. Chuck put on his best performance in a very long time, although he was knocked out late in the first. Rich left with a broken arm, but a win. Chuck doesn't seem to want to retire, but it is Dana's number one priority for him.

Dana contiinues to tell the media that Chuck is going to retire, and will never fighti in the octagon  again. This could lead to another organization, but picturing Chuck in another organization is wrong. In the upcoming weeks, Chuck should defiinitely make a decision on his retirement or oncoming career. So we will have to sit and wait to see if the retirement comes.

Chances of Happening : This probably has the best chances of happening. Dana may be able to talk "The Iceman" into retirement. That would be the end of a great fighter.

1. Tito Ortiz III - Last fight was a UD loss to Forrest Griffin

Tito has been recently scheduled to fight Matt Hamill at UFC 121. Although, Tito was scheduled to fight Chuck at 115 before pulling out. I'd like to see Chuck fight at least one more time against Tito Ortiz. This is a fight he can win, and a fight that will sale quite well. This would be the third time these fighters have met, and the outcome will be the same in all three.

Chances of Happening : This has very good chances of happpening (if Tito wins or loses). I also believe that if Chuck pleads for this fight, Dana will grant him this fight.

Outcome : Chuck Liddell TKO 2nd
