John Cena: Why So Much Hate From The WWE Fans On The Web?
In each and every topic in WWE forums or articles written on Bleacher Report there are tons of anti-Cena comments. The Cena haters are also specialized in off-topic remarks and will put their so original "Cena Sucks" or "Cena only got 5 moves" comments anywhere and everywhere.
In short, wherever you look in pro wrestling discussions on the web there are anti-Cena fans who come with their grain of salt.
I wonder why there is intense hate for someone who just plays a role with a script given by his boss? I often saw people writing they wanted him to be injured so he could no longer wrestle. I even saw death wishes toward him.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
It's one thing not being a fan of a wrestler for various reasons since everyone has different taste and it's all good. I am not a Cena fan, but I respect him for his dedication and I even enjoyed some of his promos.
I am not a Jericho or Shawn Michaels fan either, but I can acknowledge everything they did for the business and they have my respect for that. My less favorite wrestlers are currently The Great Khali, The Miz, Cody Rhodes and Rey Mysterio. However, you won't see me bashing them on any occasion I get.
I have heard many reasons why the Cena haters despise him so much, but none of these points are valid reasons in my opinion. In fact, all I have seen so far are superficial reasons to hate him. So, let's see some of the most common answers we can find as to why "they" hate John Cena.
He Only has Five Moves
When I see this, I wonder if Cena's detractors can actually count passed five.
To my knowledge, he has an arsenal of at least 12 signature moves, so count with me: Vertical suplex, twisting belly-to-belly suplex, fisherman suplex, diving leg drop bulldog, "Five knuckle shuffle", sitout hip toss, running neck snap, running one-hand bulldog, running leaping shoulder block, Thesz press, "STF", and "Attitude Adjustment".
These are the moves he currently uses in WWE and it can be easily proved he used many more moves in the past.
To give you a comparison, Edge uses 13 regular moves and Randy Orton has 11 signature attacks. Have you ever heard anyone whining about their movesets?
So, the "five moves" argument makes little sense.
He Can't Wrestle
If he can't wrestle, what is he doing in the middle of the ring night after night? He dances?
Cena takes bumps and he puts his body on the line like anyone else in WWE. In fact, can anyone say he doesn't always give the best of himself every time he appears in an arena?
Of course, he is not the best technical wrestler around, but neither are or were Big Show, Ultimate Warrior, The Undertaker, The Rock, Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan, or Batista.
Why Cena and all the others I mentioned are all multiple-time World Champions? Because they have other qualities than pure wrestling skills.
They have some or many of the following requirements to be a good WWE wrestler: intensity, charisma, a great gimmick, outstanding strength, endurance, brawling abilities, mic skills.
One of the beauty of WWE is the variety of fighting styles. There are high-flyers, brawlers, technical wrestlers, powerhouses, martial art experts or a combination of styles.
A wrestler is not bad just because he is not a pure technical grappler.
Many will disagree with me, but Cena can actually wrestle and he proved it in some of the "I Quit" matches he has been in. The only problem is what he is asked to do by the creative team. He has a powerhouse wrestler's profile and the WWE uses him that way.
By the way, have you ever seen The Rock or The Ultimate Warrior using a submission move to win matches like Cena regularly does with his "STF"?
His Superman Gimmick
If Cena runs with a Superman gimmick, what about The Undertaker who only went down because 11 wrestlers helped Yokozuna at the 1994 Royal Rumble? At least Cena never lasted long against The Nexus. If it was the 1994 Undertaker, they would have looked weaker than against Cena.
I could also talk about Stone Cold who never stayed down no matter the beatings he suffered. Same with Shawn Mihaels who built his legacy on his uncommon endurance. Even Mick Foley can be called a Superman if we think about the shots needed to keep him down.
Actually, what is the definition of a Superman gimmick?
That being said, who is to blame regarding a wrestler's gimmick? I for one blame the creative team for bad gimmicks because it's their job to find the best roles for their castings.
I would compare Cena to an action movies star, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger. Many will say he's not an actor, but he played in countless movies in which he is a Superman. From Conan to Commando and from Terminators to Last action Hero, he was indestructible. He also played in some comedy movies (Cena can be really funny on the mic).
Does anyone hate Schwarzenneger or wish him career-ending injury because he plays a Superman in many of his movies?
He is Put in the Fan's Throats by the WWE
That one is funny. Does anyone force the Cena haters to watch him on TV? I have good news for those who really can't stand him: there is an invention called, the TV remote to change channel with a simple finger touch.
Seriously, the WWE only puts on TV those who sell the most merchandise and who fill arenas. Don't forget the "E" in WWE; it mean entertainment, so decisions are made according to that. It's show business and, even more, it's pure business.
I would also ask why is he so popular if "he sucks" so much? Does it means all of his millions fans are stupid? Or, in other words, are the anti-Cena the only wise fans on this planet?
Don't like him? Simply change channel if you see him and come back to the show when he's gone.
At least, the merchandise department didn't get back their microwavable cheeseburgers and named it the Cenaburgers as they did in the eighties with Hulk Hogan (1). That is what I call putting a wrestler in the fan's throats.
Conclusion and My Answer's Attempt to the Burning Question, "Why the Hate?"
I am not defending John Cena as a fan, because I'm not. He is far from being one of my favorite wrestlers, but to got some IWC members going as far as wishing him a career ending injury is just beyond me.
Are the Cena haters simply jealous of his success?
Are "they" playing a role on the web, some kind of heel posters, because they are heel wrestlers' fans?
I honestly have no real answer to the question and I am only speculating.
So I invite you to use the comments section to explain why you hate Cena. And, if you don't hate him, why do you think he is so intensely hated by his detractors?
