Fantasy Football: 25 Players That May Disappoint
It's that time of year again. Fantasy football is nearing us all. The most anticipated part of the football year is rising up right before us.
Fantasy owners are studying their fantasy football magazines in hope of finding that breakout player that will signify their chances to win a title.
In contrast, I've spent the past few weeks analyzing all the NFL teams around the league. I'm here today to provide all the fantasy owners with some key breakdowns of players that I think will have a circumvented type of season.
In no particular order I will provide all of the fantasy football fanatics around the world with some information on why I feel these players will take a substantial dip in 2010.
25. Steve Slaton, RB, Houston Texans
1 of 25
In 2009 Steve Slaton experience the inevitable, the sophomore jinx. Many have predicted that he will overcome this spell in 2010. I see it differently, for one he's been struggling all summer trying to get the respect of his coaches back.
The fact that Texans drafted Ben Tate this off-season leads me to believe that the head office is leaning towards a different outlook at the running back position.
Moreover, the Texans have another running back named Arian Foster. This young lad has turned a lot of heads this season because of his unique and dynamic skill.
So where does this leave Slaton? To tell you the truth, he will see limited action.
Fantasy owners have selected him in the previous year in the first round. My personal advice to all of you is to stay away from him.
24. Matt Forte, RB, Chicago Bears
2 of 25
Matt Forte of the Chicago Bears saw a dip in his statistics last season. He couldn't snap out of his slump throughout the season.
Many had speculated that he was a one hit wonder. I truly believe that Forte is a good player. The only negative heading into this year is that the Bears went out and signed Chester Taylor. With that said, expect Forte's numbers to stay below average. Taylor was brought to Chicago to help the running game.
Forte may only see 10-12 touches a game which will prevent him from being a threat in the fantasy football leagues.
23. Joseph Addai, RB, Indianapolis Colts
3 of 25
This season the Indianapolis Colts are faced with a dilemma. For one they have Donald Brown who is starting to look like he's the favorite to start the season. Secondly, Joseph Addai is still suffering from his previous injuries.
Addai's concussions in the last few years have finally taken a toll on him. He's complaint about sporadic headaches which is a concern for most NFL owners. Moreover, the reason why I believe all fantasy owners should stay away from Addai is because he will be sharing the ball with Brown.
Limiting Addai to 10-15 reps will only decrease his value for fantasy leagues.
22. Brian Westbrook, RB, San Francisco 49ers
4 of 25After watching this video it gives me some speculation that Brian Westbrook's career is up in the air. He was no doubt one of the most lethal running backs in the game. He suffered back to back concussions which raises a lot of doubt for fantasy owners.
He's signed with the San Francisco 49ers earlier this week which gives me great confidence that his play time will be limited. He's playing behind Frank Gore which will minimize his attempts to produce as a fantasy player.
21. Marion Barber, RB, Dallas Cowboys
5 of 25
Every warrior has their time of defeat. With that said, I turn your attention to the next individual I would definitely stay away from.
Marion Barber of the Dallas Cowboys has had his fair share of time as a starter in the NFL. He's been recognized as one of the best smash mouth running backs in the league. But in contraposition he's been getting banged up a lot.
His numbers will take a substantial dip in 2010 because of the rise of Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.
20. Percy Harvin, WR, Minnesota Viking
6 of 25
Percy Harvin has gone through a lot these past few years with sicknesses and personal issues. Yes he's overcome some of the hurdles he's faced, but the biggest challenge ahead of him is that he will have no Brett Favre.
If Favre doesn't comeback to play with the Vikings this year, the whole team may see a dip in their individual stats.
19. Terrell Owens, WR, Cincinnatti Bengals
7 of 25
What can I possibly say about Terrell Owens. The guy is a clown. He is by far the biggest disappoint in football.
I'm surprised that he even got the chance to be apart of a professional team this year. Besides that, his statistics are no where near his earlier years.
I see Owens playing a small role in Cincy. The team belongs to Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco.
18. Ted Ginn Jr, WR, San Francisco 49ers
8 of 25
Ted Ginn Jr. is going to a team that has solid wide receivers to begin with. His first round selection was a complete disappointment.
He will most likely be used as a punt returner or a kick returner. That's no great help to fantasy owner's.
My best advice on Ginn is stay far away from him.
17. Jamaal Charles, RB, Kansas City Chiefs
9 of 25
To all fantasy owners out there beware of Jamaal Charles. The acquisition of Thomas Jones signified that the Kansas City Chiefs management isn't set on Charles being the go-to-guy in 2010.
Yes, Charles has blistering speed and can elude many defenders but my belief is that the Chiefs brought in Jones to smash in the touchdowns when they enter the goaline area. This means less points for fantasy owners if they acquire Charles.
16. LeSean McCoy, RB, Philadelphia Eagles
10 of 25
With the Philadelphia Eagles entering the 2010 season with new faces across the board, it gives me great speculation that we might see a losing season in Philadelphia.
LeSean McCoy is entering his second season as an Eagle. He's a great athlete, but my fear is his size may come into play come the middle of the season.
You have to remember, the NFC East is the toughest division out there. Players get banged up in this divison quick.
McCoy will struggle come the second half of the season. His stats will stagger throughout 2010.
15. Steve Smith, WR, Carolina Panthers
11 of 25
Whatever happened to this guy? He went from Pro Bowl to toilet bowl. His statistics have taken a big dip in recent years.
No excuses, his quarterbacks have not been the greatest to deal with and coach John Fox has abandoned the pass and controverted into a more running based team.
Besides he's been in the league for nine years and the mileage on his legs is adding up. I expect him to have a disappointing season this year.
14. Eddie Royal, WR, Denver Broncos
12 of 25
The Denver Broncos specifically made it clear in the 2010 NFL Draft when they selected two new receivers to the team.
I believe all faith has been lost in Eddie Royal. I see him concretely diverting to a special teams player. His numbers will drop in 2010.
Fantasy owners please take extreme caution with Eddie Royal.
13. Darren Spoles, RB, San Diego Chargers
13 of 25After watching the above video, you will notice why Darren Spoles will disappoint in 2010. The team is leaning towards Ryan Matthews.
Darren Sproles showed some sign of greatness last year. His stats were great. He had combined for seven touchdowns and single handed was one of the reasons why the Chargers played extremely well.
I can't see Sproles starting in San Diego, his small frame will take a beating. He will be reverted to a smaller role. This will allow for Matthews to shine!
12. Ronnie Brown, RB, Miami Dolphins
14 of 25
With the metempsychosis of Ricky Williams and the injury bug that has chased Ronnie Brown for years has led me to believe that Brown will slowly see a dilution in his stats.
The Miami Dolphins have taken noticed to this and have said that they'll take a more careful approach to Brown's playing time.
I think this means less reps for Brown, which in hence means stay away!
11. Fred Jackson, RB, Buffalo Bills
15 of 25
I don't know what to say about the Buffalo Bills, they have two star running backs but chose to draft another one this off-season.
For some reason the Bills aren't too happy with Fred Jackson and it showed on draft day as they selected C.J. Spiller in the first round.
Jackson will see his time decrease because of these transitions.
10. Jason Witten, TE, Dallas Cowboys
16 of 25
With Martellus Bennett up and coming in Dallas, the playing time should decrease for Jason Witten.
Coach Phillips is looking to use Jason Witten in the red-zone more this year, and give the two young tight-ends a chance to develop this season.
Furthermore, Wittens injuries are starting to take a toll on him, which means he may see less playing time. He's not going to have a horrible year, but I do see him slowing down this year.
9. Larry Fitzgerald , WR, Arizona Cardinals
17 of 25
With Kurt Warner retiring, the focus has turned to who will throw the ball in 2010 for the Arizona Cardinals. In all certainty, I believe that this will create a dilemma for the receiver core, specifically Larry Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald's stats took a slight drop in 2009. His receiving yards decreased by 400 yards vastly because of Warners ability to execute.
I can't see the new quarterback Matt Leinart having any success this year, which leads me to believe that there might be some trouble in Arizona.
Look for Fitzgerald's stats to lessen this season by at least 30 percent.
8. Clinton Portis, RB, Washington Redskins
18 of 25
Clinton Portis maybe a player that will disappoint in 2010. For one, he's recovering off of multiple injuries he sustained last year.
As well, he's got Larry Johnson, and Willie Parker breathing down his back for the starting role in Washington.
This may cause Portis to endure a significant plunge in his season figures.
7. Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers
19 of 25
Ben Roethlisberger will struggle in 2010. I truly believe this individual will have a hard time coping with all the media junk. I'm convinced that his mind isn't in the right place as of now.
Roethlisberger in my mind will see his statistics slowly decrease as the season continues.
6. Kevin Smith, RB, Detroit Lions
20 of 25
Kevin Smith will have less time with the ball in 2010. The main reason is that the Detroit Lions drafted Jahvid Best to help out Smith with the running back situation.
I believe that the Lions are looking towards the future, with that said, I'm convinced that Best will win the starting position sometime in the middle of the season.
Sorry folks, Smith will create a lot of issues for fantasy owners come kick-off time.
5. Carnell Williams, RB, Tampa Bay Bucaneers
21 of 25
After coach Raheem Morris made it clear that his concern about Carnell Williams was his durability, it led me to believe that Williams will struggle in 2010.
He's been troubled with a multitude of impairments which seem to linger continuously back into his life.
To all fantasy owners, please refrain from selecting Carnell Williams this season because of his vunerability to get hurt.
4. Brandon Jacobs, RB, New York Giants
22 of 25
Brandon Jacobs will struggle this year. He's been troubled with numerous injuries which have taken a toll in his career.
Secondly, Ahmad Bradshaw has been up and coming which means the ball will be out of Jacobs hand significantly come kick-off time.
Jacobs touchdowns have taken a drastic dip. He had 15 touchdowns in 2008, but managed to only accumulate five touchdowns last season.
Although Jacobs had his highest amount of rushing attempts last season(224). He still retrieved only 834 yards.
Your best bet as a fantasy owner is to stay away from his services.
3. Mark Sanchez, QB, New York Jets
23 of 25
I truly believe that Mark Sanchez is one of the most overrated quarterbacks in the league. He cannot throw the ball down field.
He prefers to make short passes. Why? Think about it.
To hide someone's weaknesses you must focus on the small positive things they do. Any quarterback in the league can throw for a five yard pass. Sanchez managed 12 touchdowns in 2009 and threw for 2444 yards.
He's good, but he will frustrate himself this season with a multitude of interceptions.
2. Knowshon Moreno, RB, Denver Broncos
24 of 25
Yes the Denver Broncos have found their go-to-guy at the running back position.
The real question is if he can sustain the punishment throughout the season. My answer is NO!
Knowshon Moreno will have a lot of problems this season. First of all, he's got health issues that have followed him around last season.
Secondly, he's a north and south runner which will create more wear and tear on his body. Correll Buckhalter was a great compliment to Moreno's running game. With Buckhalter out again, I'm worried that Moreno won't be able to control all of the workload.
1. Randy Moss, WR, New England Patiots
25 of 25
With the New England Patriots ignoring his plea for a new contract, Randy Moss is lead me to believe that he will disappoint most NFL Fantasy owners come the beginning of the season.
Moss stated to a reporter in Boston that the Patriots don't believe in signing players to big contracts. Rather, they affirm in their system than their players.
It's been a bumpy career for Moss, and his days in New England are numbered. Moreover, the Patriots have developed a new receiver core, which leads my to believe that Moss will have balls thrown to him less this year.
