English Premier League Week 1: Basic Review

A simple review of week one of the Premier League 2010-2011 season. All the weekend games are covered from Saturday to Monday.
This is just a quick review for those of you who are either still learning about the game, or simply in a hurry. 

Tottenham Hotspur V Manchester City

Result: 0-0

Upset?: No

What it means for Spurs: A solid point against fellow 4th place rivals.

What it means for City: Stops a run of 5 defeats to spurs, decent point. 

Aston Villa V West Ham United

Result: 3-0

Upset?: No

What it means for Villa: A strong start during a shaky period for the club.

What it means for West Ham: Three points dropped to a stronger side.

Blackburn Rovers V Everton

Result: 1-0

Upset?: Slightly

What it means for Blackburn: Decent three points from a tricky game.

What it means for Everton: Slow start, three points lost. 

Bolton Wanderers V Fulham

Result: 0-0

Upset?: No

What it means for Bolton: A good point against a good side.

What it means for Fulham: Not at their best, still earned a point.

Sunderland V Birmingham City

Result: 2-2

Upset?: No

What it means for Sunderland: Reasonable start but would have liked a win.

What it means for City: Hard earned point against strong opposition.

Wigan Athletic V Blackpool

Result: 0-4

Upset?: Yes

What it means for Wigan: Three points lost in suspected 'easiest' game of season.

What it means for Blackpool: Great start to first Premier League season. Proved critics wrong.

Wolverhampton Wanderers V Stoke City

Result: 2-1

Upset?: Slightly

What it means for Wolves: Good start against a difficult side.

What it means for Stoke: Away form still not found, three points lost.

Chelsea V West Bromwich Albion

Result: 6-0

Upset?: No

What it means for Chelsea: Great start to defence of title.

What it means for West Brom: Difficult first game, uphill battle from here.

Liverpool V Arsenal

Result: 1-1

Upset?: No

What it means for Liverpool: Good point against good side. Well earned.

What it means for Arsenal: Would have liked three points but will settle for one.

Manchester United V Newcastle United

Result: 3-0

Upset?: No

What it means for Man Utd: Solid start to the season, straight forward three points.

What it means for Newcastle: Possibly the hardest game of the season done, lost with dignity.
