UFC 121: Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez Set For October 23rd In Anaheim
In today's press release for the Ultimate Fighting Championship it was announced that UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (5-1) will defend his title against Cain Velasquez (8-0).
"UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez" will take place on October 23rd at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
This will mark the first time that the UFC has been at the Honda Center since 2007 for UFC 76 when former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell lost a split decision to Keith Jardine in the main event.
In the co-main event will be former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields (25-4-1) making his long awaited debut in the octagon in the welterweight division against Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann (17-3).
Other match-ups at UFC 121 include former UFC light heavyweight champion "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz (15-7-1) against Matt "The Hammer" Hamill (9-2) in a student vs. teacher fight. There is a welterweight showdown between Paulo Thiago (13-2) and Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez (21-4) and rising heavyweight Brendan "The Hybrid" Schaub (6-1) against former heavyweight title challenger Gabriel "Napao" Gonzaga (11-5).
After defeating former Pride and UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Cain Velasquez has been given a once in a life time opportunity to make history.
"Throughout fighting history, there has never been a Mexican heavyweight champion, but at UFC 121, Cain Velasquez will try to become history and become the first," UFC President Dana White said. "To do that he must defeat the baddest man on the planet, UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar."
Also fresh coming off his fresh destruction of Dan Henderson, Jake Shields enters the UFC, and he's got his sights set on the welterweight title, but he's got to get by Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann.
Tickets for "UFC 121 will go on sale Saturday, August 21st at 12pm ET and tickets will be priced at $500, $400, $300, $200, $125, and $75.
