NFL Two-A-Days: Tennessee Titans' 2010 Season Preview

Ryan FryeAug 16, 2010

This idea originated from ESPN's Mike & Mike. Same format, my answers. I will now preview the Tennessee Titans.

1.) Is QB Vince Young the clear cut leader of the Titans' offense?

Young has been in some trouble in the past; he will need to clean that up. He is the leader of this team. When he came in last season he turned the Titans around. The team realizes he gives them the best shot to win, so he is the leader.

2.) Is Chris Johnson the best RB in the NFL?

Yes, he joined elite company when he rushed for 2,000 yards last season. The second best back is Adrian Peterson, who needs to clean up a bad fumbling issue before he's can once again be considered the best.

3.) Who is the Titans' most reliable WR?

I'm going to go through the names. Nate Washington isn't reliable because he dropped too many passes in 2009. Kenny Britt has the big play ability and is capable of being the number one guy. However, Britt needs to be more consistent to reach the number one status. Right now, I'd say Justin Gage. Gage is the most consistent and is a possession WR. Damien Williams, Lavelle Hawkins, Paul Williams and Dominique Edison are all unproven and need to step it up in 2010.

4.) Can the Titans' defense recover from a very disappointing season in 2009?

It doesn't help to lose Kieth Bulluck and Kyle Vanden Bosch. Derrick Morgan should help replace Vanden Bosch as the primary pass rusher. The rest of the defensive line is filled out by depth and a lot of young developing players like Jason Jones.

The Titans brought in free agent Will Weatherspoon to replace Keith Bulluck. Weatherspoon is a sideline-to-sideline playmaker much like Bulluck. Stephen Tulloch emerged as the Titans leading tackler last season, while David Thorton will fill the outside linebacking spot beside Tulloch.

Cortland Finnegan is the playmaker in this secondary and a Pro Bowler. The second cornerback spot is up for grabs with Ryan Mouton, Tye Hill, Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner competing for it. Michael Griffin took a step back last season, but should return to his rookie form. Chris Hope also was inconsistent and might need a wakeup call (maybe some competition).

Overall this is a young defense that will improve but still struggle at times.

5.) Record?

The Titans are my second favorite team, but are in a rebuilding stage. They should go 8-8 and come in third in AFC South.

Later today, I'll preview the Detroit Lions.
