Kansas City Royals Happily Send Jose Guillen To San Francisco Giants
Before I get to the confusing acquisition of Jose Guillen by the San Francisco Giants, I would just like to make a public service announcement to those over the age of 21: Please don’t drink tequila and hang out until three in the morning the night before playing a softball game in the middle of the summer.
Burping up tequila shots while chasing down balls in center field is no way to go through the day. I just thought I would share that with everyone.
Now on to the matter at hand. Why would the San Francisco Giants acquire Guillen from the Kansas City Royals? It has been three days since the Giants acquired Guillen for a player to be named later and cash, and I still can’t figure it out.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Guillen was batting .255/.314/.429 with 16 home runs with the Royals, but he doesn’t play a lick of defense and is known not to be the best teammate in the world. Here is the only logic I can see in the Giants GM's thinking: It worked with Pat Burrell, so why not take a chance on Guillen?
While it’s not the worst logic in the world, it’s a flawed mentality. Burrell was a once-in-five-years signing. I don’t even think Burrell expected to be doing what he has been.
I also don’t like the fact that Guillen is a one-dimensional player. Those type of players usually get exposed in the National League because a team can’t stick him in the DH spot. He can really only serve as a right-handed pinch-hitter off the bench.
Guillen should only serve this role. If he is starting on a regular basis for the Giants (which he has been), then the Giants are making a massive mistake.
A mistake along the lines of drinking tequila the night before a softball game.
