2010 NFL Preseason Week One | Fantasy Football Rankings

Sean E. DouglasAug 15, 2010

In Week One of the 2010 NFL preseason, we watched rookies like Ryan Mathews and offseason signings like Donovan McNabb play for the first time in a new uniform. While both of those players had good debuts, others like Brandon Marshall, struggled.

Looking back, I was probably most impressed with Joe Flacco’s shown improvement on Thursday night; the Ravens’ passing game seems more advanced and mature than ever before. That’s not saying much, however. Baltimore has been a run first, defensive-minded group since they moved over from Cleveland.

Still, Flacco looks primed to help fantasy squads this season, and if you happen to draft a quarterback late in 12 team leagues or deeper, you need to look at Flacco as a strong starting possibility.

While many NFL teams only played their starters a series or two, (many stars didn’t play at all) the next two weeks will be the biggest for fantasy football evaluation. Starters tend to work deeper into the first half of games in these next two weeks, and hopefully, we won’t see any big injuries like the one Ben Tate suffered against the Cardinals.

Note: We will be doing fantasy football analysis for most preseason games for the first three weeks of the preseason.

Week One Preseason Games

More Preseason Notes:

Bronco Quarterbacks

Tim Tebow had a decent performance in his debut with the Broncos. Fellow Bronco quarterbacks Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn were supposed to be in a light quarterback controversy, but Orton has consistently outplayed Quinn thus far.

Look for Orton to start this season and Jabar Gaffney and Eddie Royal to be his top targets in the passing game.

Arian Foster’s Fantasy Value Is Moving Up

Arian Foster just about had the starting job wrapped up in Houston before Friday night’s game against the Cardinals. In that contest, Foster had a solid stat line when rookie, second-round pick Ben Tate suffered what could be a season ending injury.

Look for Foster to be the main tailback for the Texans this season as Steve Slaton is still gaining his strength from his past neck issue. Slaton will be the third down back and won’t be a fantasy option until at least the second half of this season.

For Foster, he is now worth a draft selection in the middle rounds at your fantasy football draft.
