NFL Preseason Preview: Five Reasons to Watch Miami Take on Tampa Bay

James BrownAug 14, 2010

The Miami Dolphins and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take the field in a preseason matchup Saturday night. Although it is just a preseason game there are plenty of reasons to tune into this game.

1. The Top Ten Sportsbooks have the Dolphins posted as 3.5 point favorites in the latest line. Bet Mania is offering a FREE $50 bet on any preseason game. All you have to do is sign up and use the NFL preseason promo code: REGAW and they will put the $50 in your account to wager on preseason games.

2. The Dolphins have announced that the starters may play into the second half of this game, depending on the amount of time they get in the first quarter.

Chad Henne may need the extra time to try and connect with wide receiver Brandon Marshall. The two struggled to connect when they practiced in a game like format, and this game will give them time to work on timing.

3. Tampa Bay head coach Raheem Morris is challenging his team to not play soft. Recently in practice, he sent his team off the field and back to the locker room to put on pads to practice in. He assumed he would get many complaints, but he didn’t receive as many as he thought he would. This could be a sign of how the team has come together as a unit.

The game against the Dolphins will give them their first real test of the year.

4. The Dolphins will get a chance to see how the backup quarterbacks play.

Tyler Thigpen and Pat White will both get some playing time tonight and a chance to impress. Thigpen has much more experience in playing regular season games, but has struggled with interceptions in camp.

White has the mobility to break exciting plays, and how he plays in preseason games could determine the depth chart.

5. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a real position battle going on at running back. Currently veteran Derrick Ward is the backup to Cadillac Williams, but Kareem Huggins is making a push for the spot.

Ward has the experience and the size, but the younger Huggins has the speed and the elusiveness. Huggins may be a bigger threat to break open a long play and be a receiving threat. The battle for the number two spot begins against Miami.

It may only be preseason in the NFL, but there are still plenty of reasons to watch when these teams suit up on Saturday night.
