Are "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette" Sports?

Cliff PotterAug 14, 2010

Was one of these women on both "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette"? For that matter, who cares?

Perhaps the bigger question is whether this contestant and others on these shows are actually engaged in sports. Seriously. Do they translate into sports? What qualifies as a sport anyway?

Amazing as you may find it, "sport dating" is defined by the Urban Dictionary as:

Constant, uninterrupted dating of individuals with no intention of becoming involved in a second date or relationship. Often used to practice for other anticipated dates, or to garner free food and drinks.

So we have the first clue that "sport" and "dating" are intermixed by some in the current "know."

Next, can an overweight sixty-plus year old possibly be part of "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette"? Most would say no way. For that matter, no overweight bachelor male or female could possibly even get on the show. Another point in favor of at least saying that being in shape is critical to both sports and being a male or female bachelor.

Finally, what is watched by millions in crowds as large as many of the most popular sporting events? Yes, "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette."

Of course, there are some issues. For example, what is the arena where these sports are played? And where do fans sit?

Still, if card gambling is sport, surely so are "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette."

And that is The Real Truth.
