Fantasy Football: DeAngelo Williams Fantasy Jabber

Lee JohnsonAug 14, 2010

Carolina Panthers Running Back, DeAngelo Williams, is part of the ultimate Running Back By Committee in NFL Fantasy Football. You don’t hear people complain, though.

With the Panthers Offensive Line opening holes, there are plenty of running attempts for both Williams and Jonathan Stewart—so many that people often don’t even consider that they share time.

Let’s look at some other things to consider with Williams on Fantasy Football Draft Day.

After his breakout year in 2008, DeAngelo Williams brought in an Average Draft Position of pick 1.06 in 2009. Sharing more of the workload with a returning Jonathan Stewart and missing three games himself saw his production take a dip.

So far this draft season, his ADP lands at 2.08, in the bargain zone. While he will continue to share carries with Stewart, the Panthers are set up to be a run-machine again as they welcome in a new starting QB and some young WRs.

There is not much of a downside apart from the sharing of the load, but that isn’t as scary as most situations with the amount of carries to be shared. Williams is recovering from an ankle surgery, which appears to be no issue.

Currently Williams ranks at No. 11 in our Running Back Redraft Rankings. He is being drafted anywhere from the mid-first round to late third round. If you go QB or WR in the first round and can land Williams as your #1 RB in the second round, you are off to a fantastic start!
