Fanatic Or Nuts : Why Are We Men So Crazy For Sports ?
I think I was wasted or nuts when it suddenly struck me to solve the most baffling unsolved mystery of the universe. Oh please don’t worry; I am not talking about Kennedy assassination or Apollo 11 mission to moon. Yes, I am talking about why we men are so crazy about sports? Why do we turn to the sports section first as we get our hands on a newspaper? What makes us say infinite swear words, when Referee denies a dead penalty; what makes we men hug each other (perhaps the only situation when hetero men do it gladly) when our team wins champions league in injury time ?
Some people say that perhaps ball is mankind’s most disastrous invention, not excluding the nukes. Reason: Men must have wasted trillions of man-hours playing or watching ball games. I believe it’s just the opposite, ball is one of the major reasons for survival of the world (no pun intended) else God knows what men would have done with so much free time at their disposal if there were no sports to watch or play.
Let’s try be Freud for some time and figure out what makes sports and men fall in love?
In our days of innocence we change our careers more frequently than our latest crushes. At some phase we aspire to be a sportsman, but alas, very few are able to pursue that dream and become Rooneys and Messis. Rest all become crazy sports fan cheering those Schumachers.
Another major reason for our craziness is our affection for the game, which we used to play for hours till darkness, a day prior to exams or even bunking classes. But sadly we have to grow up, rather act responsibly and embark on the shitty journey of becoming engineers, doctors, lawyers and what not. But deep inside that child survives and still wants to play like crazy. But that’s not possible; hence to be as close to the sports we simply watch every second of it and therefore laugh and cry with our teams.
Some of my friends wonder and ask me, “Why are you so crazy for Manchester United? What do you get even if your team wins….Nothing?” I simply choose to smile. But they get their answer when I am not in best of moods after I have seen my team lose and they try to cheer me up by saying, “Dude Chill it’s just a game.” On behalf of all fanatic fans, I hate to break it to you pal : It’s NOT Just a Game, it’s our MEANING TO LIFE!
